Graphics Card Upgrade

Hi,

They said, the top of the range graphics card only have DVI-I (supports VGA), DVD-D (which doesn't support VGA). So I am just going to buy a very good graphics card and buy a screen at a later stage. However, I will buy an active converter, HDMI to VGA, if it does the trick then great, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

R9 270X ?

Thanks

They should work, though I find the connector to be a bit iffy.

Make sure to look at other PSUs, cos of the GPUs you want.

From AMD, have a look at benchmarks as well for the games you want.

I have had problems, and friends have had problems with AMD in the past. Was more geared to Nvidia Geforce series. Just don't know the big difference between the 660's and 670's.

Just found out, you get a free copy of Watch Dogs too.

Awesome.

Thanks

Gtx670 was very popular, and barely any stock exists for it, closest GPU is the gtx760 though slightly weaker.

GTX 660's. With a free copy of Watch Dogs.

Any of these any good? I need to buy a PSU to tailor these right?

Asus, gigabyte I would say make the best cooler systems and good support.
Look at 500watt range and higher.

There are other sites like ebuyer, amazon, scan, etc

I just used PC Part Picker, and they usually show like I think maybe 5 starting from cheapest? Everything is only like £2 difference, however with the Novatech company you recommended, I will get a free copy of Watch Dogs.

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 660 WINDFORCE 2X OC 2GB GDDR5
1033MHz Core, 1098MHz Boost, 6008MHz Memory, 960 CUDA Cores, DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI, DPort, PCIe 3.0, 2 Year Warranty

£136.99

Just need to find a suitable PSU now. You know the PSU, it has to be 500W+, what company is the best? Modular? Semi or Non?

Thanks again.

Better to check companies individually, partpicker can be outdated, etc

Do check out the gtx660 reviews, as some makers could be better.

I would say the ones 80+ certified... Seasonic, corsair, cooler master, evga, xfx, etc
Modular, etc is preference for detachable cables but costly. Used by people who don't want case clutter.

Hey guys,

I have found a few parts, was wondering if you can advise me on how good the are, including the price.

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 660 WINDFORCE 2X OC 2GB GDDR5 £136.99 2 Years Warranty

or

MSI GeForce GTX 660 TWIN FROZR GAMING OC 2GB GDDR5 £139.99 3 Years Warranty

http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx660series/n660gaming2gd5oc.html

An extra years warranty, for £3.

Hopefully, I can play World of Warcraft on high/ultra settings? Will these parts work with my Asrock 970 Pro 3 motherboard and my CPU.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to keep this down to £200 as much as I can. I already have a small HD that I am using, I will replace the WD HD for a better GFX card, if you think that would be better. Especially, if I can buy a HD later on, than selling a £140~ GFX card when I can get one for £40+ more

Thanks again.

You don't need a WD black hard drive get this 3TB drive for a little more

Might as well get this power supply

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/600w-corsair-cxm-builder-series-hybrid-modular-85-eff-80-plus-bronze-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-fan-atx

Pay the bit extra and get a 760. It's a lot better than a 660

get no more than a r9 270 (non x), as firstly you're CPU isn't the best and you're power supply is garbage and a potential fire hazard, recommend an r9 265/hd 7850
I've recently bought xfx radeon r9 270x for £150 (although you can find it for 130 on eBay/Amazon) and it hasn't let me down so far, can easily achieve 60+ frames on most games I've played at max settings

I used to have an AMD card but now I have a NVIDIA card and I really prefer the drivers and the Ge-force Experience application is nice.
Personally, I would advise you go nVidia, BUT given you're on a relatively low budget it's probably better to go AMD. nVidea does have some nice features in geforce experience though:
-game optimisation gives you optimal settings (although a lot of people like to manually tweek the settings to their liking) which is determined manually at nVidea's end.
-automatic driver updates
-shadowplay, which is quite convenient since it's free, half decent screen capture with minimal, if any, frame drop
-And gamestream, although this is likely the feature you are least likely to use given you need a nVidia Shield to make use of it.

And not from Geforce Experience, CUDA.
