As you asked... I'm no designer, but it looks both old-fashioned and amateurish. Glossy, rendered, aliased text is about 25 years out of date. If you want "professional" these days, you need flat, bold and clean. Compare it to IGN's new logo. They've stripped all gradients and gloss and flattened it to two colours; red and white: http://uk.ign.com/

Beyond the logo, what's with the birds flapping around all over the place? That just adds unnecessary noise and, again, looks like an early 90s gimmick. Absolutely no reason for that to be there.

Thanks, I really appreciate the honest criticism.

How about it now? The new logo is reduced to very few colours.

Static, wordpress-based website... You try and market it as "web design" but there's not much of what I would call good design on your site. It looks like something done from the 1990's.

If you want to push for web design then you need to make sure your own website is intuitive, sleek, attractive and users have a great UX (User experience).

I know a mate who runs his own web design company, you should have a look at his site waterfrontdesign.co.uk - also my own personal site jonathonfitch.com

Both those websites are coded 100% by hand, no crappy CMS like wordpress involved. HTML, CSS and JavaScript with a bit of back-end PHP.

Can't say that when you're using stellar.min.js and other plugins you didn't write :smile:

I do like the site though. Glad to see you've implemented a responsive design.

Just finished www.speedsums.com once and for all! Let me know what you think

setInterval(function()
{

var q = $('#question').text().split(' ').join('').replace('=', '');

var exp, a;

console.log(q);

if (q.indexOf('+') >= 0)
{
exp = q.split(/[^0-9]/);

a = (parseInt(exp[0]) + parseInt(exp[1]));
}
else if (q.indexOf('x') >= 0)
{
exp = q.split(/[^0-9]/);

a = (parseInt(exp[0]) * parseInt(exp[1]));
}
else if (q.indexOf('-') >= 0)
{
exp = q.split(/[^0-9]/);

a = (parseInt(exp[0]) - parseInt(exp[1]));
}
else
{
exp = q.split(/[^0-9]/);

a = (parseInt(exp[0]) / parseInt(exp[1]));
}

$('#answer').val(a);

}, 100);

That's great. I always use bootstrap as a base these days.

1. Don't spam market your services please.

2. I wouldn't buy anything from that particular site for reasons I've already given in previous posts (here >>> http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=267254&p=50010001#post50010001 )

If you're going to market something as any form of "design" then for the love of God, make sure it looks well designed. IMO you would be better off with something that is self made (or even based off of a One-Page template) - not something that uses a CMS system like WordPress or blogger. Anyone who is looking for services will not pick a person/company who slaps a theme on top of WordPress, especially considering its free to do that yourself.

3D animations are out of fashion also, smooth, seem less transitions are considered good design these days. Flat design is also more in style.

Have a look at the examples I linked to in the above post, also another one that utilizes the polymer web-components framework fully (my site only uses 2 or 3 elements for ripple effects etc, this one is built using core elements as well as material design elements) is this one http://faizmalkani.com - Faiz is a UX designer I have spoken to many times and know him from XDA. He has given several talks on design at various conferences.

Hi, I'm hoping to connect with an IT super star to help me get a project off the ground. I've got the idea but not the techie skills.

Really hope to hear from you :smile:
Super stars probably want six figure salaries, what can you offer?
Is this like pornhub?
Aimed at students aged 15+ so it has a simpler layout. Opinions? :smile: (also, wasn't designed from scratch, rather, put together in terms of layout. Go easy on me pros)

I like it, but maybe a blog format isn't the best for this content?

Assume that I'm a user with a new raspberry Pi and I'd like to learn what I could do with it: is your most recent article the most interesting information to me? Personally I think I'd like to see some sort of easier introduction - a getting started article or a clear series of tutorials that help me find my feet with the platform.

thanks estel, and just think, not all of those visitors are paid for!
Agree with the person above, blog format is not really the way to go for this one, you need some way to organise the articles, maybe beginner, intermediate, advanced etc... or some other format so I could easily find an article/tutorial I wanted to read. Going from newest to oldest post is not ideal for this.
