Philosophy and Economics joint? Mathematical difficulty?

I'll cliffnotes this to save time

C in maths GCSE

AAA in A-levels (History, Politics, Philosophy)

Unconditional offer from Sheffield Uni for Philosophy 2014 entry

Become interested in pursuing a joint degree (Philosophy + Economics) due to recent interest in economics and increased job prospects

Course requires B in maths GCSE

Questions:

1) What are the chances of me being able to swap onto the course with a C in maths?
2) How difficult will the mathematical content be in a joint degree? I am not great at maths obviously as I did get that C, but it's not like I did any revision for the exam either. I'm planning on working very hard at University and really putting in the hours, so will this make a difference?
3) Would I still be able to achieve a First overall even if I don't do so great on the maths heavy modules?

Thanks all

I am guessing it is not that heavy on econometrics and micro-theory, then.

Well you should be able to manage it, then. The thing is to secure the switch. For that:

1. Very early on approach someone in Economics and ask to audit courses. You really need to waste no time in doing or at least attending this: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/economics/undergraduate/degrees/modules/ecn118
2. Ask your personal tutor about the process for switching courses. Very often this is first come first serve and there will always be a form to complete.

Don't be pushy about it and especially try to avoid prompting them to think that you have schemed for a back door to entry.

I've had a look at the course outline and it looks as if the quantitative modules are mostly options.

Thank you Cambio. Should I email my situation now to them, or wait until as soon as I start my course in September? Also should I email the Economics department or the Philosophy department? Or both?

My loose inclination would be to wait until September and then speak first to someone in Philosophy. Economics will anyway be very wary of having it look like they're poaching students from a less subscribed department and will send you away to speak to your personal tutor.

This person probably knows better than I do:
