A scale on a map is 1:250000. What does each distance represent. (Give your answers in Kilometres)

a) - 1cm

b) - 10cm

c) - 4.6cm

d) - 0.2cm


A scale on a map is 1:5000000. How many centimeters would the following distances be on a map. (Answers in centimeters or millimeters)

a) - 50km

b) - 5km

c) - 100km

d) - 60km

Someone showed me how to work these out before but my answers and working outs were wrong.

Can someone please explain how to work each one out.

1:250,000 means that one unit of distance on the map corresponds to 250,000 of that same unit in real life. That is, 1cm on the map corresponds to 250,000 centimetres in real life.

Yes thanks for your help, I managed to do it earlier. Pretty simple to be honest just didn't know the way to work it out. thanks again.
