What sort of clothes do girls wear to graduation?

I was planning on just wearing a dress with tights or leggings. I don't what'd be appropriate though. I've never been to a formal event before.

I would recommend wearing a shirt with some sort of formal skirt. However if you still rather wear a dress just take a couple of safety pins for the big day and secure the gown with them! Congratulations

I recently went to my wife's graduation and every single woman I saw was wearing a dress with heels.
