But you can't outlaw a belief. Racism isn't illegal neither is homophobia it's wrong and impossible to outlaw a system of beliefs/fears/hatred
It all depends on your definition of Islamaphobia and the extent. Is it a hate crime to disagree with Islam? No. The trouble arises when people put Islamaphobia into practise - such as the petrol bombing of Mosques must surely be a heinous crime.

So, I think the question too vague.

I agree. The public order act already illegalises some forms of speech. You can't say whatever you like whenever you like in this country contrary to popular belief.

Petrol bombing any building is arson. The target is immaterial.
A hate crime is a hate crime. Last time I checked any form of unjustified hate towards another person would classify as illegal. Not specifically to any group, so I feel that Islamophobia would be included in that ground, as is homophobia and racism towards Blacks. Tose two are huge ****ing nono's. Oh and sexism towards women, like not hiring them simply because they're female, not letting them do something (sports, etc) or sexual harassment/rape. :noway:

Have to point out that you can not be racist against Islam-Islam is not a race, its a religion. All religious people make a decision to be a part of their religion, and therefor to support the views of that religion. If others do not agree with these views, they're called Islamophobes, racists, bigots. It's ridiculous. Why should the sensitivites of one group stop freedom of speech?

nothing. i have no problems talking to someone that has a legit interest in understanding. most people obviously dont, aim to attack and smear instead. its always nice to remember muslims are humans as well

Yes, but it's a harsh extension of Islamaphobia. In this sense, this extreme Islamaphobia should most definitely be illegal - for arson and a hate crime. The point being Islamaphobia shouldn't be tolerated when it branches off into extremism - physical violence.

I think harassment and abuse due to Islamaphobia should be illegal (which it is already) but I think there should be stricter rules on the media for inciting hatred towards a minority. Because that's what the Daily Mail has been doing recently. Not exactly sure how it would be enforced/regulated or anything, and in general debate about Islam should definitely not be banned.
I'm all for freedom of speech but not when it encourages hate towards a bunch of people for their religious beliefs.

But I will point that every person of religion-not just Islam, a fair few Christians and Jehovas's Witnesses, that I try to have an intellectual debate with, dismiss me as an ignorant western girl the minute that logic wrecks their fantasy land.
Now, considering that these relgions are meant to be tolerant, Islam in particular, a number of their followers NEVER remeber that I am human and are happy to condemn me to what they believe is the worst fate a person can bring upon thereselves-hell.
Apparently I just piss religious people off :tongue:
