Choosing accomodation

Started the application for the applying of accommodation. Does anybody know whether its best to choose your own rooms or have the university select them for you. Just wandering whether one or the other means you'd be more likely to get your choice of halls.
Any advice would be ideal!

I think that you are pretty much automatically assigned the halls based on the first come/first serve demand, and you then get to choose the room if you want to. I'd go for choosing your own room, as you can also pick what fits your budget and the sort of people you want to live with. I don't think it affects your choice of halls.
