Good choices so far, but mine would have to be A Day In The Life by The Beatles. Literally, a masterpiece.

Yep, easily the best British song ever recorded.

Common People by Pulp
not the best Pulp song but sums up a time of British history perfectly!
The whole Britpop era is perfect...

The Who, The Smiths, and The Beatles also are all great.
Anything by The Smiths is fantastic,
The Stone Roses are also brill. Can't pick one song!

It's too easy to pick an old song that your Dad listened to, try and pick a new one that you think you'll remember 3 decades from now! I'll give you a In New Music We Trust, future banger that's got so many good vibes for me, the whole thing just encapsulates my uni/holiday period even lacking a swimming pool:

But nobody will remember much music from now in three decades time. People nowadays class a song that was out last year as being "so old" and frowned upon, so why would they pick it as being iconic?

Oh my favourite band at the moment is Pulp 100% all the way... Remind me of my childhood haha, and Jarvis Cocker, he needs no words to describe him!!! :adore:

Oasis, Blur, The Smiths, New Order, Suede, Sleeper, Joy Division, all of these have been blaring out all weekend. Nostalgic... :h:

I also like Mac DeMarco, Interpol, Little Joy, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros etc.

Rave music, a la The Prodigy, Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Justice, (i don't know if that is actual rave music but it sounds pretty rave-y to me)

And I like stuff like Brooke Candy, Die Antwoord. Random haha!

I have a what I like to call eclectic music taste, in that if I can jam to it, I like it. Yeah.

I think we'll have a few stayers though. Trying to find a stayer is much harder than picking a britpop anthem. There are good ones, I love Common People among others but they're not of our generation, they're not supposed to relate to us, if they do it's merely coincidental. Think of how many songs there were in the 80s (90s chart music was mostly an abomination) and how many we remember now through our parents, the numbers have shrunk rather a lot. That said, we've never had the volume of music we have now. I thought I was a bit late to the #SELFIE party hearing it on the radio at about 700,000 youtube listens, it now has 136,000,000 so music does expire at remarkable pace. I do hope we remember some good ones, I don't want to have to introduce any kids I may have to music which my Dad introduced me to, they'll appreciate Grandad music even less than they will Dad music!

I understsnd what you are saying, I just prefer music from 80s or 60s because the music means more. Artists nowadays are too commercially produced like One Direction, and it all is down to looks at the end of the day. There is some music produced now that is good though, although I believe that anything that is good isnt in the charts and so people dont know about it. But it doesnt really mater, I like the fact that only a few remember songs that our dads listened to!

I think it's too easy to hark back to giants of byegone eras, there are so many artists out there who are so not commercially produced if you would only look for them. But looking is time consuming and unorthodox. Just put Radio 1 on between 10pm and midnight Monday-Thursday and you'll get a flavour of what I mean, that's new music which either hasn't yet gone commercial or is musically good but of a genre or style which prevents commercial success; this for example:
