IT/Computer Science Courses

Hi,

I'm just finishing my AS exams and am looking to go to university to study Computer Science after A2.

I have heard people talking about courses such as the ECDL and the CCNA. I just wondered if anyone had taken these/recommend taking these or anything like them. So it would give me something else to add on my CV/application.

I have also been doing quite a few online courses such as CS50 and others.

Many Thanks,

I know for an absolute fact that nobody in their right mind would consider doing the ECDL voluntarily.

We had to do it at secondary school and it's certainly not worth anybodies time.
Ok, thanks
Those things have very little to do with Computer Science. I wouldn't worry about them at all.

I have never heard of ECDL (probably because I am not European), but I have heard of CCNA. It's a certification for network administrators. Besides also being around computers, their job has very little to do with CS.

I wouldn't worry about them at all. Anyone who is a qualified computer scientist will put no weight on those certifications (for a CS/programming place/job).
Ok, thanks
We make some suggestions about background reading/activities here: http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/ugadmissions/why_oxford/background_reading.html We talk about writing a UCAS personal statement here. It might give you some ideas. http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/ugadmissions/how_to_apply/personal_statement.html

ECDL doesn't really have anything to do with Computer Science, so wouldn't be something we would recommend in order to improve an application.
