Financial advice for dental nursing student?

I recently got accepted into a dental nursing course and I have been told that my tuition fees will be paid by the NHS to the uni directly and I will be getting around £5000 of bursary. Its great that I am basically getting my education and £5000 for free but I have also been told by the uni that I will not be getting any financial support from the student finance. I will be staying that the uni's halls of residence which is around £4000 a year. I don't think that £1000 will be enough for food, travel and stuff for a whole year. My parents had offered to pay any remaining cost during the course but I would prefer not to depend on my parents so much. I am hoping to get loan from somewhere but the uni has said that I can't get any from student finance.
Is this the same for other dental nursing students as well? If you are a dental nursing student, and you don't mind me asking, how much did you get?
