Developed anxiety

For years I have been able to manage and organise very stressful situations such as my degree and difficult jobs. I have developed anxiety over the past year in my permanent job because of the work overload which has took it's toll on my health.

The doctor diagnosed me with tennis elbow. Some days I'm ok but other days my arms and hands are in agony and pain. Work keep brushing it under the carpet and had the cheek to offer counselling (I declined). They don't realise there isn't enough people to do the work and think by palming it off as my problem to deal with.

My arms get in more pain when I think of the stressful job. I feel sad as for many years I had great health and I still exercise everyday but the anxiety gives me physical and emotional pain.

There are a number of options available to you.

The first option is to leave your job. Any job that is causing such problems with your physical and mental health is not worth doing.

The second option is to raise a grievance with your employer to see if the matter can get resolved at work. Ideally you need specialist employment advice. I would recommend going to your local Citizens Advice Bureau or contact ACAS for employment advice. If you can't resolve the issue at work by speaking to management or raising a grievance then you can resign and pursue a claim for constructive dismissal through the employment tribunal. (Constructive dismissal is basically when your employer has put you in a position where you feel as though you have no other choice but to resign.)
