Original post by Moshesimon4ever
Was p(a^b)= 0.33.

I think so, i dont quite remember but iknow that igot that number somewhere :smile:

yeah thats what I got

How did you work it out?

Im not sure but this is what I did:
a) Mean of y = 1.4(Mean of x)-20 then rearrange for mean of x, it gave like 50 something...
b) The S.d is only affected by the Multiplication so its (S.d of y)/1.4, which gave like 5.somthing....
for the histogram q I got width 0.5 height 7.5
did any1 else ???

OMG OMG OMG :frown:( when i first saw that question I was like "wth is this ?" I have never seen it before in any past papers o.o I left it until I finished the 8th question and came back. Try to think as simple as I can and left the room feeling like poop . Well >.< awesome I didn't lose 4 marks

^

yes
I got 57.7 for mean and 4.71 for standard deviation I think (?)

Yea when I first saw it I wasn't certain so I left it till the end, after some thinking I managed to deduce a sensible answer....
How did you work out the height of the histogram?!?!?!?!?!?
how do you do the intersect question

I hate these question but after a long time of hating them I learnt how to do them:
Basically:
1.5/(50-20)=x/(80-70), where x is the width you want
Rearrange for x you should get 0.5

For the height:
10/(1.5*1)=25/(0.5*h), where h is the height you want
If you rearrange you should get like 7.5 for the height
(sorry if the values I used are off but I did get 0.5cm & 7.5cm) :smile:

Correct.

SD is affected by multiplication and division only.

6.6 = 1.4x

x=6.6/1.4

x=4.71

Mean is affected by both multiplication and division.. AND addition and subtraction.

[value-(forgot what the original mean was)] = 1.4x-20

[value]+20 = 1.4x

[value]+20 / 1.4 = x

x = 57.7...
