Yayy I finally found other people doing ideologies on here, seems like everyone's doing US politics!
Any predictions? I think feminism probably won't come up as a 45-marker, unfortunately, as it's my favourite topic but fingers crossed for a good Ecologism (can't stand Nationalism)

I would have liked feminism as a 45 marker too, but oh well. Ecologism has to become our focus now instead I guess.

At least we will probably get two Feminism 15 markers then.

Yeah, the good thing is Ecologism ones are usually relatively straightforward
Liberalism was actually my preferred topic at Unit 3 and it worked out well having two 15-markers so I'm *quite* optimistic about it.

Yeah I've just seen one about Ecologism and Capitalism which would be perfect. I'm going to have to try and learn about some ecologist thinkers because most of the ones I know are from Feminism. :bawling:

How did you find Unit 3 on the whole then?

Yeah remembering thinkers isn't my strong point, that's what I'm pretty much doing today I guess!
Umm, pretty goood I think - I did the anarchism 45-er which was really straightforward but then my teacher said that the raw marks to UMS conversion is different for different essays depending on how hard they are, so a bit nervous about that:frown:
How about you?

i think one of the shorter questions will be on the public/private divide

Please could you let me know if you find any good ecologists who could be mentioned in an essay?

Even if the Anarchism question does have a higher boundary, that doesn't mean you haven't achieved it. You might well have written one of the best Anarchism essays they mark.

I wrote the Socialism question so I wonder how 'hard' that one rates amongst candidates. It was about to what extent socialists have disagreed about the means of achieving Socialism. I liked the question anyway. :h:

That's fine with me. All you have to mention there is that the personal is political and discuss how women are confined to the private sphere traditionally.

I wonder what the Ecologism 45 marker will be.

Any thoughts on potential questions? Im focusing on Feminism, Nationalism and Multiculturalism.

BOOHOO about the Feminism 45 marker not coming up but hey ho for Multiculturalism.

Can anyone explain what social cleavage in regard to feminism is please? In pretty simple terms please!
Also, is feminism def not a 45 marker? Was counting on that ):

Feminists believe that gender, like social class, race or religion, is a politically significant social cleavage. Social cleavage meaning divisions in society.

Oh, so much more simple than what I was expecting, thanks!

Well we can't say for certain, but it's looks very unlikely following their pattern of setting questions. But on the flip side of things, we'll get two 15 markers for Feminism.

So it just means social gap / division basically? I'm guessing that division reflects the subordination of women?

Yep and yep

Late response but the term 'social cleavage' is used by Radical Feminists.

They place emphasis on patriarchy to demonstrate the political significance gender has over any other social 'cleavages', such as class or race.

Other forms of expression they use: 'gender as the most important social division'

Additionally they believe that Female Liberation requires a sexual revolution to overcome patriarchy.

for shorter questions of feminism the following have come up:
these are in order from jan 2010

-patriarchy and it's significance in feminist analysis

-private/public divide
-androgyny and essentialism

-sex and gender

-gender equality

-radical feminists redefinition of the nature of politics
-link between feminism and liberalism

-key features of socialist feminism

-patriarchy and it's significance in feminist analysis

-sex and gender significance in feminist analysis

maybe conservatism and feminism (?) that wouldn't be too hard

Could you give example questions you think may come up?

^ i think the conservative critique of feminism
or something related to 'the personal is the political'

I'm just taking guesses but I think it's best to go briefly over everything that has already come up and focus more closely on what hasn't come up yet for the shorter questions
ecologism being a single doctrine is a possiblity, any 15 mark feminist qs?

Conservatism and Feminism?

Erm... what do you mean? like Reactionary Feminism or the most common anti-feminist argument is that gender divisions in society are 'natural'. Women's physical and anatomical make up suits them to the subordinate/domestic role?

Biology is destiny?

I literally have no idea what to write if conservatism came up regarding Feminism; we haven't even learnt much about the critiques of Feminism!
Any tips on what hasn't come up?
