P Value - HELP!!!

In questions where it says the p value is either <0.05 or >0.001. What does it mean? I know it's something to do with probability, but I don't know what :s-smilie:

Please help!
The p-value is a number given to you by statistical tests. It tells you how likely it was that a result was due to chance. Generally speaking, if a p-value is above 0.05, your results may have been due to chance, and your data isn't valid for showing a conclusion. If a p-value is below 0.001, it's very very unlikely that your data was due to chance, and you can reject the null hypothesis. (The null hypothesis states that there is no relationship between whatever variables you were examining)
