I went, i was in the red group.
Was a good day.
I liked the Silane experiment:smile:
Picked it as my firm Choice...

And for everyone else
Choice:Mchem Sussex
A Levels: Maths, Chem, Computing
Predicted:AAB
Need:AAB
Turned down offers from Warwick/UCL because Sussex is just a lovely place to be and it is top for Chemistry(Guardian 2010).

That was my post. How adorable and new was i?

I was so young.
Whilst I agree it's equally abhorrent for women to make these kind of gestures towards men, I think the capacity to defend yourself is an important factor in the level of fear or intimidation you might feel. For example, a couple of weeks ago I was walking to the pub at night when a man wolf-whistled in my general direction - not by itself immediately intimidating, just gross. However, when that elicited no response he yelled "hey, sexy!" and when I kept walking and ignored him, he shouted at me "OI, you, don't be a f*cking slut!". At which point I was desperate to get to where I was going. Situations like this are the reason many women feel intimidated even by the most innocuous interaction from a stranger - they can escalate very quickly and are often unpredictable.

****ing cringe.

Boy, did I walk in on the wrong topic.

That's a fairly cool first post. And 2004?!?! Forget how long you've been a user sometimes.

Did you get useful help from TSR at that time?
Was that when m was still around?

How did you come across that thread?

Just find it on the lurking and had to sign up to air your frustrations?

Nah, I signed up before I saw any particular threads really. I think I was just looking to contribute in a thread about something I least knew what I was talking about.

I have learned since then that no one on here ever knows what they are talking about when it comes to gender threads.

I think i googled about the Applicants day and saw other on here chatting about it so i signed up to chat about that. Then stayed to post about maths exams i was sitting at the time.

Then before you know it you've been here 4 years and made 17k posts and are sat in the TSR office helping to run a competition. :moon:

Oh yea,no one does know what they're talking about, that's why we need you to explain it to them, about 500 times will do it i think. then it starts to sink in.
My spectacular first entry was to offer some inaccurate advice about a course I have no knowledge of at a university I've never been to.

I know people doing History at Bristol with ABB - if you're interested in one of their specialisms they might well make you an offer. Good luck.

Don't hold your breath yet, I'm a Frenchie

Anyone else?

I was aiming for peoples original comments as it also tells you about why they signed up for TSr and how they found it as well usually.

And you're close but not quite. I'm not going to out your old account but you posted something else a few days before the thing about you being skinny.

I couldn't find that post about me being skinny

Ah ok, just searched and it all started by me posting in music? I used to always be in the room when my brother was on TSR to find out about his uni stuff but I of course in 2010 was only just doing my GCSEs so didn't really need TSR other than to talk to people

Also, I'm sure people already know who my main account is/was

First one i could find on any of your accounts was in a thread about why teenagers get in relationships when it "obviously won't last". Half the responses were sex, the other half was "it might last". Lol.

I'd just put it in my bag. Can't believe some people flush theirs. :s-smilie: You're not supposed to.

I actually remember that thread! I also just realised I had 4536 posts in Games and Comps, I had no life - but it's also where I met my ex so can't complain
 I was such a moron when I was 17

To the OP:

Because what you mini-Gelodofs dont realise is that if we were to bring everywhere in the world up to a decent economical standard, we'd need about 6 other planet Earths just to stay afloat, which is somewhat ironic because the groups of people who complain about poverty are usually the same ones who complain about using up resources. So no, bringing people out of poverty is none too good an idea.

In addition, it took you a hiking trip through Africa to start feeling guilty about their state of living, so who are you to say noone cares? And its not like noone donates to charity, because nearly everyone, at least at some point, does. You cant possibly expect everyone to become fully devoted to bringing other countries up to scratch, or to just sit in their bedrooms thinking "I am sad that my life is better than those in poorer countries", can you?

Now, providing them with means to survive is another thing altogether. Food, water, education, farming equipment etc etc, I'm all for that.

Shameful.
I got my results on March 8th and I had A* full points on my first module of OCR Gateway Double Science Award. I have now been given the chance to do triple science, which would mean three separate GCSEs in biology, chemistry and physics. My teacher said if I decide to do it, this exam I had received my resulst for will be cancelled and I will have to take three more exams in June. He also said I will have to teach myself with little support for modules 3, 5 and 6 in all three sciences.
Exam 1: B1, B2, B3.
Exam 2: C1, C2, C3.
Exam 3: P1, P2, P3.
Is it worth changing now?
I also wish to take a-levels in maths, chemistry, physics and french if that helps.

Cringe.

47,000+ posts later

I did end up self teaching my sciences lol

And funnily enough, I took all those A Levels with other ones too.

Good old Year 10 days...

...eh? Cannot compute. Don't bring them out of poverty- bring them out of poverty!

'mazing. 17 year old you wasn't so bad

For me the B123 exam and C123 exam are exactly one month apart, so lots of revision time. We have done a lot in class. The B123 practice papers had only like 70%+ for an A* so if they are the same for the other exams then I should be able to get an A* easily, as on all the practice papers I've been getting A*s and dropping only like 3/4 marks. However the way UMS works means that this means nothing as far as I can see it.
The topics I am least certain on include:
Minerals in the Earth etc.
Atmospheric evolution
Polymers

The rest is just exam technique really. I don't think I need to do that much revision but I'm trying to do 1/2 an hour each day at least.

Practice questions for anyone who cares
1) Explain the different methods of obtaining salt and the uses that they are most suited to. (6)
2) Complete the following chemical equation:
Methane + Oxygen = __________ + _________
CH4 + 2O2 = __________ + _________
(3)
3) Match up the cause of an atmospheric change and the gas(es) it changed. Each cause and/or gas may have more than one line.
Volcanoes Nitrogen
Green plants Oxygen
Carbon Dioxide
(3)
4) State two ways that polymers can be changed and the properties that this affects.
Change 1 ________
Properties affected ________________________________ _____________________-
Change 2_________
Properties affected ________________________________ _____________________
(4)

5) When brine is electroysed, three products are formed. List them.
1___________
2___________
3___________
(3)

My answers (may be wrong)
1) Solution mining can be used to obtain salt. This entails pumping water into a salt deposit and then using the resultant brine as and when needed. It is suited to the chemical industry as the salt is relatively pure but has health risks attached to it. Salt mining can also be used to obtain salt. This entails using machinery to dig salt out of underground deposits. This is suited to use as rock salt or grit as the salt contains many impurities so cannot be used in the chemical or food industries. Finally, evaporating seawater can be used to obtain salt. This is suited to the food industry as the salt obtained is very pure.
2) = Water + Carbon dioxide
= 2H2O + CO2
3) Volcanoes -> Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide
Plants -> Carbon Dioxide, Oxygen
4) Plasticization
It reduces forces between polymers, lowering their boiling point and making them more flexible.
Cross-linking
It chemicularly bonds polymer chains, increasing their boiling point, increasing forces between them and making them stronger.
5)Sodium Hydroxide
Hydrogen
Chlorine

I got 100 UMS in both exams, as it turned out. Chemicularly is, alas, still not a word.

In the UCL forum! I lurked for months previously, using the A level forum to help me with a particularly difficult English exam I had coming up.

This was the magic thread that got me an A!
