So yeah, just another noob girl trying to get fit and strong. You may have seen me around the transformation contest, but I'm serious now and planning on starting a proper training programme.

In the past I've done Insanity, fad diets, cardio-obsessing, pilates, tai chi, running, youtube-obsessing - basically anything you could think of, I've done it.

Anyway, one thing I haven't really got into and known what I was doing is weight lifting. Recently I've read so many articles and seen so many inspiring stories of lifters that I really want to start myself! So I found this programme on simply-shredded (or something) for female beginner weight lifters. It is 12 weeks long and incorporates HIIT and weight lifting 4 days a week for fat loss and muscle building, sounds great basically!

I am a complete beginner so this post won't have any 'stats' however I can squat quite well - I know this isn't very official, but I regularly squat with my 10 year old brother on my back for 3 sets of 12, he weighs about 30kg.

Anyways, this is probably getting too long now for the first post, but I should be taking my starting measurements and weight this weekend, with my first gym session this Sunday woohoo!

Stick around and watch me get strong!

Wow. I think you're already stronger than 90% of males on TSR(me included).

EDIT: In b4 people start calling me weak and beta.

Not sure what point you're trying to make. Who cares if you can bench a certain amount if you don't even look like you lift.

I started bench press with 6kg dumbbells, everyone starts on baby weights (apart from angry cucumber the genetic freak who started with 25kg dumbbells :P ) !

I started with a barbell but I was so weak I couldn't put any weight on it XD

Good luck OP! I'm going back yo weights when I start earning so can afford the gym.

Yes I'd like to see pics but if I don't, it's not the end of the world and I'll carry on with my life, dear god man.

Yes, but my point was no one cares about your numbers. They care about what you look like, and you should too. How much you can bench or deadlift is largely useless in the real world, but looking good is extremely important. Lifting weights and increasing strength is merely a tool to make you look better.

And who cares about sports? We're not going to become professional sports players at our age, so we should stop kidding ourselves that lifting for sporting performance is in any way relevant.

You don't need the gym! You can buy your own stuff online? Its cheaper... That or buy some water bottles and you get a drink when you're dying as well

I mean other than the specialist machines and stuff you can get whole sets of dumbbells

At the risk of seriously derailing this thread... sorry op

Clearly being a high achiever is not important to you bassetts. For most people it is. Most people want to be the best they can be, lifting more = achieving goals = be happy. Lift more, be better at sports, win more, be happy. etc. You have no idea what standard if sport people here play.

Hell even being good looking isn't important. What is important is happiness and confidence. If lifting heavy stuff gives me both of those then it is doing far more than lifting will ever do for someone like you. (fyi I do not look like a troll either)

Your argument makes you sound autistic to be frank.

Besides, a heavy bench and deadlift etc will result in more muscle and hence better aesthetics. Losing fat is the easy bit. Lifting heavy is not.

Finally, if you do, as you claim, have mental health issues then to be brutally honest you are not qualified to tell us what we should think of ourselves or society.

And put them where exactly in my small one bedroom we flat that I share with my partner? :\

Plus its rented, I can't damage the floor by dropping weights everywhere!

I'm all for being a high achiever, but be a high achiever in something that's relevant. You're not going to become a professional sports player. No one on this forum is, we're too old for that. You have to start from a very young age (like 10 years old) for that to become a reality.

Looking good = more confidence and happier. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

As far as mental health issues go, I don't think I have any. All the doctors I've gone to, they say one of 3 things:

1. "You might be depressed" and then recommend counselling (lol)
2. "You might simply be feeling down"
3. "Any health issues would have been picked up when you were younger"

Not much more I can do.

Now I'm going to stop posting so this thread doesn't get derailed anymore.

Day 4:
Decided today has been my weekly rest day which will fluctuate from week to week due to open days. If any of you are interested, today was bath and I absolutely loved it, definitely applying.
Today I tripled my normal step count, so I feel like I've justified eating more than I normally would haha

Food diary:
Cheerios with almond milk
2x hot chocolate
3x chocolate biscuit (they were free and I couldn't resist, was hungry)
1/4 pizza
1/2 tuna sandwich
Apple
Peach
Walkers crisps
Carbonara pasta
