It's not modernity, it's the new dark ages!

The amount of massacre, rape, killing and all the bad things that's been happening since 1900, it makes me think it's the new dark ages. All long with these atrocities social addictions like pornography, adultery, pedophilia, bestiality is rampant now. The astonishing thing is we are trying hard and desperate to justify these unethical addictions and claim marriage is not need, ethics is not needed, morality is not needed.

Yes, in terms of scientific achievement we achieved a lot, technology is great now, but Vikings too built brilliant ships and boats, even then it was called the dark ages.

The previous dark age only caught some parts of Europe, but now it's the whole world, and the war doesn't seem to stop. The war for greed, the war for oil(Iraq) and drugs(Afghanistan) seem to continue.

I guess, you may disagree, but I'd like to see your view on that.

There has always been pornography, adultery, paedophilia (or paederasty as it was probably known then), and bestiality. We've always had them.

But we never had them rampant nor did we battle to legalize them.
in this country? it's getting better all the time in my opinion
crime is continuously going down as the decades go on
and rape is only a concern today (regardless of the figures) because feminists always love a good moan

I can't speak for the rest of them, but as far as pornography goes its use has never been as widespread as it is now, because PORN has never been as easy access as it is today.

I don't think the OP was saying that these things have never existed before, just that not to the same extent as today.

I agree, there does seem to be an increase of awfulness, whether this is due to the fact that we have news 24/7 and journalists are stationed all over the world ready to report the smallest thing that happens, who knows.

I have been saddened at the rape and hanging of the girls in Indian villages over the past couple of weeks. What has really struck me was yes, there has always been rape and murders but as far as I'm aware the bodies were buried and the crimes hidden, now the they are left out in the open to shock and show that evilness has gone a step beyond the evilness before.

This, combined with the kidnap of the girls in North Africa (and further kidnappings of young women/young mothers in other villages local to the first crime) just shows evil is unleashed.

Someone will come back and say there has always been this horribleness throughout history and no doubt there has been but, it seems now that human beings who choose to do such heinous crimes have had the fetters taken off.

The values that are missing are I feel God's standards from the bible. The family unit, hard work, loving one another, preferring one another's needs above your own, not killing, not stealing, not lying, the list could go on.

Believe me, you have more to worry about, crashing standards in common sense perhaps?

In US, there are some states bestiality is even legal. A few years ago they even produced a documentary on that. Not every thing is published.

Oh! And btw, learn to respect people even when you disagree with them, that's the basic humane quality, unfortunately I don't see that in you.

There never was a Dark Ages. I doubt a "Dark Age" that could produce works like Beowulf for instance deserves that title. And yep, pre-Dark Ages, the ancient Romans were all nice, kind, and never crucified people, massacred Christians, tortured their slaves and conquered people......I don't get why you're idolising the past. there has never been a "perfect" phase of human history.

Humans are savage, amongst other traits of course....it is as is. Seems depressing, but then it's delusional to not accept negatives as well as positives.

And pre-1900, hmm...didn't some Europeans commit genocides in Africa and the Americas? Enslave millions of Africans? Kill native Americans, Australian Aboriginies?

Fetters taken off? Hmm....

Or maybe it's global media and social media? I'd wager strongly that the things happening in India now happened in the British Raj and John Company rule days. It's either the Raj/EOC didn't know, or it was hidden from them.

I'd say life today for the average British person today was far better than 200-300 years ago. If one is white British, you'd most likely be a pauper or live in a slum. If you were black, you'd probably be a slave or not if a free person not advance much.

Sorry, but I can't agree that "the world is getting worse". I think people who assert that grew up in a distorted/filtered culture.

How old are you? You sound like a 14 year old know it all.

I respect your right to have your opinions, as the cliche goes, but I do not respect ludicrous nonsense for the sake of it.

If they produced a documentary then it is, by default, published.

No, things are not getting worse. Crime rates are, in a broad sense, dropping the world over. We're simply more aware of it than we ever used to be, and that's because other things (communications, notably) are improving all the time.

And that's all pretty damn obvious.
