    Hot feet over joining SHU
Desbite what the papers said about A level results going up this year, i sadly wasnt in that number. As a result i missed my place at heriot watt(autmotive engineeing) by a fair old wack. I was however accepted into sheffield hallam to do automotive technology but last few days have been a nightmare for me, with regrets and the old 'what ifs'.

Biggest worry is i didnt have a proper look around SHU, so things like sport facilitis and parts of the eng. dept were completely missed out. It was also ages ago so i cant remember what they were like.

Accom. wise iv applied to Bramall Court, Charlotte Court and Archways. Im also desparate to bring my car up, what are the chances of this being a possibility at the above accom?

Anyone doing a similar course, or have any advice in terms of facilities(both sport/gym & eng) parking, accom etc?

    cheers guys.

This isn't advice, i just want to let you know, you're not alone

I was looking at Lancaster, made it my firm, did all my accomodation went to all the open days, but missed their ABB requirements by quite a bit.

Sheffield Hall mwas my insurance, but i never thought i'd be going here, so i must admit, i havent seen the uni at all, i've been to Sheffield Uni, but all i've seen of Hallam is the stuff in the prospectus.

I'm not even 100% sure which places i applied for accomodation wise, so i'm quite worried.

I can only suggest you do what i did, i rang the university earlier today enquiring about any more open days and instead i am getting a one on one tour around the uni, looking at accomodation etc as well.

From what I have heard Charlotte Court has the best parking facilities although these are still limited. I visited Charlotte Court and made a thread somewhere on this forum if you wana have a look. I'm not sure how helpful it will be.

Sheffield is an awsome place, loads to do plus it the 4th largest city in england which helps. Um if your course is at Psalter lane (where i will be based) the facilities are quite good, the building itself isn't modern but it is situated in a more green area and is about 2 miles out of the city centre. Sport wise Sheffield Hallam is good so i heard, they have alot of facillities, Don valley stadium, Footie stadiums etc etc and they have an annual contest wiv Sheffield University (varsity challenge) with sport so i think it will be quite good. Not sure on the accomondation.

Charlotte court definitely has parking and when I went to look round Bramall court last yr they also had limited parking. Archways does not have any parking facilities though. And Captain Clamp is mean!!!! So I wouldnt risk it

The University itself is very nice. Clean and modern looking inside. And the city itself is known as the city of Sport. Football, rugby, Ice Hockey, Curling, Speedbikes, Dog racing and of course the snooker. The night life is some of the best in the country too (gatecrasher, kingdom, etc etc) and it's not expensive living either!

Im sure once your there you will like it. I didnt think i was going until i went to the open day and it sold itself to me before the guides even spoke!

I came through clearing last year and I had not even looked around Hallam. You will be based at city campus. There is a gym on both city campus and collegiate crescent. I think it is £140 for a one year gold membership. There are loads of different classes you can try when you join up. In freshers week you could join up to some sports societies as well.

Last year i was just given whatever accommodation was left over...it was rubbish! Therefore i ended up going private and living at the forge.

If you can't find anywhere for your car then don't worry. Most people tend to walk everywhere, as everything is so close.

There are tons of sporting things to do in Sheffield, havent tried them tho as not my thing.
You might find it hard to get a car parking space, sheff is rubbish for parking and they clamp everything that moves. Char and bram have parking but limited and is likely to all ready be booked, I think you have to book a space from what my mate said. Not 100% sure about that tho.
