What has Gerrard ever done for England?

I'm dying to know

Why doesn't he get the same stick as Rooney?

Its Wilshere. He's not suited to that deeper role and goes missing meaning Gerrard has to cover for him and can't go forward as much himself.

Gerrard is extremely overrated midfielder, once great as an attcking MF.Nowhere near the class of Pirlo,Xavi,Sneijder, even Alonso.

The type of players England actually need to do well
Wilshere came on off the bench Gerard had already played poorly for the best part of an hour.

Ha, sarcasm!

Pirlo is a class above

We'd be a worse team without him. There's a reason real madrid wanted him.

That was about 10 years ago. The Gerrard of 2014 is way past it, as we saw last night. Pirlo dominated both Henderson and Gerrard the whole game, and showed how overrated they both are. Gerrard is a square peg in a round hole for England, the team doesn't need him and he doesn't provide much. He can't control the tempo of the game like Pirlo can, Gerrard is a box to box midfielder who was recently converted to DM for Liverpool, but at international level, he can't cut it in that position.

Obviously the media makes him out to be a saint, so he will never get dropped from the starting xi even if he is one of the worst players on the pitch.
I hate these football experts that turn up every World Cup

Scored in the World Cup for starters.

Yeah but he's not suited to that deeper role. Should have been Carrick alongside Gerrard.
Blasts it over the bar and gets lauded by the pundits as some kind of great attacking threat from midfield

nowhere near as bad as Rooney though, Gerrard's passing is actually good

And he made that **** even worse. Wilshere was only on for a bit but he was **** whilst he was there, admittedly a statement that means little. That crossfield pass to Johnson that was about 15m behind him was atrocious beyond belief.

Not blaming him for the defeat obviously.

No worse than anyone else.

Bit tough for Jack to go from an Arsenal side that prioritises possession to this England side.

Hodgson made the wrong subs, he should have put Lambert and Lampard on so they could make something from set pieces. Putting Wilshere and Lallana on just congested the midfield even more and the Italians were able to shut us out quite easily. Sterling shouldn't have stayed on for the whole 90 mins since he was quite clearly gone after around 60 mins.
