I am looking forward to going to uni, and there are some parts I'm really excited about.

However, the closer it gets, the more anxious I'm feeling about freshers because I don't drink and I've never set foot into a club before in my life; and that's virtually what the first week is going to consist of for most people! What are you even supposed to do at clubs, because surely it's too noisy to socialise and make new friends there right?

Don't worry about not drinking I don't drink too! I live near Brighton so know the clubs around there and as long as you're with decent people no one will force you do drink or do anything  I never drink when I'm out because of the fact I'm the biggest lightweight in the world, but see how you feel, if you fancy a drink then have one if not then no worries! The best nights I've had in Brighton were the times I didn't drink! There's always the smoking areas in the clubs where you can have conversations with people without the loud music, I don't smoke but go out there anyway  in the clubs you can just dance or mingle with people, it's nothing to worry about and I bet you'll enjoy it! Brighton is great

Oh and I do agree with the fact there will be likely some guys trying it on with you but I've got a boyfriend and never had any problem with them, normally if you say no or shake your head or something they go away and if not you're surrounded by nice people so literally grab someone random and say this guy is bothering you and they will make sure you're alright  I did that for a girl that some guy was bothering it was no problem so don't worry about that either:colondollar:

Oh okay, thanks, that's made me feel a lot better! Maybe I'm just worrying over nothing and it'll all be fine when I'm up there, but it's just the not-knowing that's the worst thing for me so not having any idea what to expect is kinda scary, but I suppose after I've done it a couple times I'll look back and laugh at how silly I was being! :colondollar:

We (the Students' Union) have loads of events that aren't centred around drinking or clubbing so you'll have lots of opportunities to socialise - www.sussexstudent.com/freshers

Are there always tickets available for events upon arrival? On facebook there are official freshers events and external events (dirtee for example). Just don't know which ones to go to. Typically what is the best route?

Buy tickets now or wait to see what flat mates are doing?

I'm totally biased so I suggest the official ones (the ones that are actually official and not just ones by promoters who write 'official' everywhere)

There are likely to be tickets for most Students' Union events when people arrive on Saturday and Sunday (though that isn't guaranteed obviously) but the Welcome Sunday Party will probably sell out on Sunday afternoon (it did last year).

There will be around 2000 people going to the Welcome Sunday Party, Pier Party and Brightonian Nights so odds are you'd know someone going to those (or you can make 1999 new friends!)

I bought pier party ticket but why on earth are the Sunday welcome party tickets so expensive? Is it worth it? I would rather wait until the day to see if my flat mates are going but I hope it isn't sold out.
Hey everyone,

I just updated the OP with a link to University of Sussex connect page - if you haven't already go connect to see other applicants' grades & offers. Also, if you enter your details it will be really really useful for everyone else making their applications this year.

Hi there I'm an international student and I haven't finished my application due to my exam results coming in late I expect to have it finalized this week but was wondering if only sending my application through so late is going to effect my chances of getting an offer like the university warns or is applying at this time during the year as an international non EU student inconsequential? Am i likely to get an offer on at least a few of my choices? Sussex is the only uni i am considering.

Thanks in advance.
