My advice:
Use men's sensitive shaving gel instead of women's- i find it gives me less irritation and smoother skin afterwards. Gillette sensitive shaving gel is really good on my skin.
Wash the skin with warm water and a gentle soap both before and after you've shaved
Use a really good razor- i always use a Venus razor
and as weird as it sounds, put some baby oil on your skin after the shave and that will keep your skin moisturised and help prevent irritation
