Hi Everyone

Got an interview for Early Years at Edge Hill this week and was wondering if anyone can give me any advice, what are the tests like and the essay part?
And the group task, I've seen a few mention on here you didn't have to take anything, do they give you a resource or do you pick it with your group?!
Any advice would be great thanks

Hi,

I had my interview there a couple of weeks ago and have since been offered, and accepted, a place there.

The tests are very do-able, but during the tests make sure you focus on your time management as it is easy to lose track!
The essay part for us consisted of 3 questions-again time management is important, but also it seems to be just a chance to see how you write and some of your basic knowledge of the EYFS.

If you had the same invite criteria as our interview group then you'll have been informed that you will work in a group or in pairs to devise a continuous provision play activity, and that is literally what you are expected to do. Ours was in pairs and it's as much about how you work together and how you come across as it is about your knowledge. They don't provide you with any more information/resources for it. Then that leads onto the individual interview, which is not intense or scary but quite a nice chat with a tutor or uni partner.

Overall it was actually a nice day and went really quickly, just try to relax and take it in your stride! Good Luck!
I had an interview there for primary and been accepted. Can you let me know what they sent you regarding the day's structure and I can feedback what I went through

Is the PGCE an infant based qualification?

Postgraduate, apples to all ages (early years to further education). You take it after your degree to qualify to work in state schools.

I only want to work in a college/university so would a PGCE be appropriate?

There are different types of PGCE, sorry I'm pretty tired haha. There's PGCE primary or secondary. Not sure about anything else so might be worth looking into the secondary one to see if you could progress once you've specialised in a subject

Congratulations on your offers! I got accepted to Durham, Newcastle and Northumbria and have chosen Newcastle.

Was a tough decision to make - I took into account my feelings on the day, the number of people on the course, the prospects after the course, and of course, the reputation of the University. Durham is a fantastic city and a great University, it just didn't beat Newcastle for me

Pgce post compulsory. Not always needed but the way education is going is probably advisable.
Usually you need prior experience in your field, can't just pick one you like at random.
Not sure how well you can transfer between secondary and post compulsory teaching. I know primary can transfer easy, but neither can transfer over to primary.

Hi,
I've accepted a place at Durham for Primary PGCE. I loved the interview and interviewers and just felt their course and interview seemed the best structured of my offers (durham, Notthumbria, UEA). I just really liked the uni and tutors I met.

I did reply, but i couldn't figure out how to post correctly on my phone. I applied for the primary at IoE, and would be happy to talk to you about my experiences. Bearing in mind some of this may not apply to your application.

Introduction: Short welcome and explanation of the day from the course organiser, likely to warn you to not plan any holidays and be available for induction day in July.

Competency tests: We had literacy and numeracy. The Lit was writing a letter to parents inviting them to a school picnic to raise awareness of a new Scottish policy. The Num was what year 6s were expected to be able to answer.

Group project: work together to sort between 10 pairs of quotes about education, then place in order of most to least relevant.

presentation: 5 minutes to talk about an experience that impacted your education. Likely to be asked about it in the interview.

interview: either with a teacher from a dedicated school or member of staff, basic interview questions.

Hope that is of some help.
I sent my application off a week ago for a PGCE in Secondary English. How long did it take for people to receive an interview or hear back for their PGCE applications. I've applied to UEA, Nottingham and Cambridge, anyone else hoping to go to one of these? Thanks!
