If they wore little bikinis and hotpants I'm sure womens footie would be a lot more popular.

Given that they all look like men, I'm not so sure it would.
Football isn't quite like volleyball.

It really wouldn't.

Since the business aspect comes first and uno "sex sells" you cannot denounce the previous persons statement
And I for one support it

I can do it quite easily. People would crack a few jokes and do a few Google searches for pics of the athletes and then once the novelty wears off not a single **** would be given.
Lol, it's more to do with women's football being of a lower standard, no homo srs.

The Internet is full of porn and my contact list packed, using football for sexual gratification is unlikely from anyone.

Beach volleyball aside, women's sport is simply too dull when compared to men's. It's slower, less advanced, less impressive, and generally less exciting for the spectators used to the male game. Less spectator interest, less money, less willingness to push the product. It's as simple as that.

"Football is ageist and disablist..."

Sweet mother of all that is divine and holy that is one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever read.

Sport by it's very nature rewards dexterity, bravery, cunning and above all athletic prowess at least one of which naturally diminishes with age. What is so wrong with that?

I'm a big believer that women's sport ought to be promoted but this article is utter, utter garbage.

Women's football is absolutely crap. I enjoy watching women's tennis and golf because it's good but women's football is an absolute joke so I don't watch it.
You know what? Fine. I get that women have a right to play football. Female football players are clever enough to know why most people watch the men's.

But to use this headline, it's so arrogant:

Is it anti-feminist to watch the World Cup?

Are you kidding me? Accusing people of sexism who frankly don't care what anyone's gender is. This writer doesn't seem to care about the skill ceiling and instead wants to talk about equal representation in areas which would make no sense as the skill ceiling would drop.

Disabled people are excluded? Well holy ****ing ****. Beats me why quadriplegics aren't allowed into the English team. It is, after all, about being a show of political correct bull**** over pure skill and tactics.

I remember years ago the Perugia owner wanted to sign a female player (one of the best in the world) but she said she wouldn't do it because it would just be a publicity stunt and simply humiliating for her since her level of play was way under even what the junior male team was playing. I love it when women understand their place in the hierarchy and aren't deluded and arrogant about their capabilities.

Women's football isn't popular because it's ****. Seriously, have any of these people watched a game of women's football? It's utterly dire. It's the same in tennis. Women's tennis is slower and displays far less skill when compared with the men's game.

Whatever your opinions about the quality, women's tennis has a far greater profile within tennis as a whole than women's football does within football as a whole. Why the difference?

Probably because they lump them in together. The women's draw at Wimbledon for example benefits from running alongside the mens, meaning it can attract better sponsors, more viewers, and have access to better venues.

Unless you get eye candy on the pitch then it will never become mainstream

That's pretty much the only reason that women's tennis is the only popular female sport outside the olympics, which is more of a worldly/social event. That and attaching the female grand slam tournaments to the men's. Take out the hot east-euro chicks in skimpy outfits and female tennis is dead within a week, like the rest of them .

^^

Also, tennis is more a social event for the middle/upper classes than an actual sport. Just look at a Wimbledon/Queens afternoon with all the housewives eating strawberries in the stands while their husbands are still at work.

Women's football need a hell of a lot of time time catch up. When, if ever the quality becomes more similar it's popularity will increase.

With women's tennis the standard is getting closer. You even have a couple of women many would argue at an almost comparable level to some men.

No offense but you must know very little about tennis. Even Serena, the best female tennis player by far, wouldn't even crack the top 1000 in the ATP, in fact I'd be impressed if she got past the 2nd round in a challenger . I could show you evidence from 1st/2nd serve speed stats to % of returns to statements from both male and female players and mixed matches from the last 40 years but that would take too long. Men are on a different planet.

Well I won't join in with all the sexist and mocking jokes on here, but I'm afraid I can't disagree, women's football doesn't make for good viewing, I won't deny there are women out there with skill, of course there are, but the overall quality and watchability (I realise that probably isn't a proper word) of the women's games I've watched (and these are top class teams like Arsenal and England) honestly wasn't much better than lower league men's football.
That article was unbelievably stupid. But actually, women's football has got a lot better in the past 10/20 years. That 1998 fa cup final was awful, but I watched some of the most recent world cup, and that is unrecognisable.

The poster you responded to there is hilariously naive. Serena even admitted herself a year ago that she didn't think she'd even win a point against Murray. Probably an overstatement, but I doubt she'd be winning many games. Nevermind against Nadal. Still, watching women play tennis is far more enjoyable than watching them play football. The ability gap between both genders is large at the top level in both games, but tennis is still a decent watch.
