Could anyone tell me anything about what an open university is? Do you just do it in your spare time alongside a job??
An 'open university' is a term for a university with an open-door policy (i.e. one that doesn't require any entry qualifications - there are a number around the world. In the UK, though, people will usually understand the term to refer to theOpen University, which in addition to enabling people who don't have prior qualifications to study for a degree is also a distance learning institution - so, you study from home (or wherever) and don't physically attend lectures (apart from the odd optional tutorial, or maybe a short residential). So in practice, yes, many people study in their spare time alongside a job (or family commitments or whatever else), although there are some people who study full time with the OU.
