Changing Course Please Help!

Hi Everybody,

Just a quick question: What is Durham's attitude towards those who are holding an offer for course X but wish to transfer to a different course? If I meet my offer for Course X I will also have met the grade requirements for the Course I wish to transfer to. Is it usually not accepted or is there a chance? Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoy studying X just as much as the subject I wish to transfer to, only I feel I'd enjoy studying the new subject a lot more!

Any responses will be greatly appreciated!

By the way, I should have pointed out earlier, I haven't disclosed what 'Course X' is as a lot of people from my school come onto here (including teachers)!and I didn't want to be recognised! I also won't disclose my college for the same reason, please PM me for this information.

The course I'd like to transfer to is Geography (BA)

Thanks for reading and responding, hopefully I'll see a lot of you at Durham soon!

Apologies, I've just realised that in no way was that question quick!

I think at Durham you don't start to specialise until the second year. So if the course you wish to switch to shares some of the same units in first year you will be fine.

If not call undergraduate admissions, and they will set you straight on what is or isn't possible.

Hi - You need to contact the University for advice on this as no-one on here will be able to help you. The BA in Geography is a very popular course at Durham and so it will depend on whether there is room on the course and how competitive your application is; only the uni can assess that. Don't worry about asking though, even if you haven't quite decided yet. If you have an offer, that will still stand if the uni say no to the transfer or you decide it's not what you want in the end so you have nothing to lose. The e-mail address is [email protected]. Hope that helps!

Assuming you meet the requirements for your offer and also for the geography course, I would suggest you ring the admissions department for Course X following results being released on Thursday. They should be able to help you depending on numbers. How difficult it is to transfer will probably depend on how similar course X is to geography
