A levels for russel group

Hello,

i wish to do a degree in Human, Social and Political Science/ Spanish with history and need help chosing A levels. One really wants to attend Cambridge/a top uni to study these degrees yet by studying at AS

Psychology
History
Spanish
Sociology


Will this mean that i won't get into these top unis. i was planning on doing history, spanish, rs and sociology or gov & pol yet neither fit into my option blocks for the sixth form i really want to go to. Help!!i do hope these unis would prefer A/A* in these subjects revelant to the courses than ones which have no use, plus what i do for extra curricular should help hopefully.
The Cambridge HSPS course is unique: no other university does an identical course. With that in mind, you possibly want to think about what specific courses you would apply for when looking at other universities - whether or not you want to specialise in Politics, Sociology, or anything else, for example. It's still quite early to be thinking about uni choices and so understandably you might not be sure, but it's something to bear in mind. In addition, Cambridge does not offer Joint Honours courses - you would not be able to do HSPS and Spanish or HSPS and History.

If I were you, I wouldn't take Sociology and Psychology - one perhaps, but not both. They aren't as respected as subjects like English/History/Maths/Sciences etc. You don't need to have studied Sociology to apply for it at uni, for example. I don't know what other subjects you could take in terms of blocks, but I'd advise taking strongly academic subjects if you're looking at Oxbridge/higher end Russell Group unis.

The 'Russell Group or bust' mantra is overworked. Don't forget that several 'top universities' are not in the Russell Group, e.g. St Andrews, Bath, Lancaster, Surrey etc.
