How Many Languages Can You Speak Fluently?

English and Irish at a reasonably level (as in I don't need to read all the subtitles when it's on telly  )

I was taught a little Irish as a child by my dad but I've forgotten most if not all of it now. I might be able to muster a painfully-pronounced count to ten.

Yep. I love it.

Thinking about it I actually know more than I thought.

Oh I understand what you mean now with the GCSE bit! I agree, learning a language outright or from family etc. is probably better and more interesting.
:yep:

Are you disappointed I didn't recognise the song immediately?

Apart from English, I'm more or less fluent in Spanish (bit rusty though) and can have a decent conversation in German.

I don't necessarily mean being almost as good as a native speaker, but at least being able to hold a conversation on a general topic in that language

Post what languages you know and how you learned them

English - native speaker
French - I've been learning French since I was 8, I go to France quite a lot and for the most part can communicate without any major problems. I am studying it at university, so I would like to think I'd be fluent afterwards
German - I've been learning German since I was 11. I've only been to Germany twice, once when I was 14 and could hardly hold a conversation, and the other in February this year to do work experience. This was a real test for me as I'd never experienced speaking to native Germans, and it was a huge shock as it was completely different to what we learn at school and the grammar-perfect German we read in textbooks. I am studying it alongside French at university, so I hope my German skills will increase, too
