Chemistry for Physical sciences 2 waiver

Second, third or forth years will probably be able to answer this, its not subject specific.
Hi I'm a chemical engineering student who has just finished their first year at uni. I passed all of my exams except Chemistry for Physical Sciences 2 which I'm not retaking this summer (I thought I could do it next summer). It turns out its a prerequisite for one of the course chemical engineers do in the following year. I found out today, so I panicked and emailed as many people as I could to get it sorted out. One of the replies said that if I get a waiver from the head of the chemistry department I will be allowed to carry on into second year as normal bearing in mind I eventually pass the chemistry next summer. Does anyone know if the chances of me getting this waiver are likely? If I dont will I have to completely retake first year or just skip the one chemical engineering module? I was only one CAS point off passing the chemistry if that helps, any advice would be much appreciated.
