Ebola spreads to Nigeria by infected plane passenger.

Last month, experts issued an ominous warning that the Ebola virus was 'out of control' in West Africa.

Now, these fears appear to have been confirmed as it emerges the virus has spread to the continents most populous nation, Nigeria, by an infected plane passenger.

Countries should close their borders to countries where Ebola has been found until it's under control.

How is it transmitted?

The virus is known to live in fruit bats, and normally affects people living in or near tropical rainforests.
It is introduced into the human population through close contact with the sweat, blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals such as chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, monkeys, forest antelope and porcupines found ill or dead or in the rainforest.

The virus then spreads in the community through human-to-human transmission, with infection resulting from direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) and indirect contact with environments contaminated with such fluids.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says the disease is not contagious until a person begins to show symptoms.
A big problem in West Africa is that burial ceremonies, in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person, can increase the spread of the disease because a person can transmit the virus even after death.
Men who have recovered from the disease can still transmit the virus through their semen for up to seven weeks after recovery from illness.[

What does it do to your body?
Symptoms begin with fever, muscle pain and a sore throat, then rapidly escalate to vomiting, diarrhoea and internal and external bleeding.

The incubation period, that is, the time interval from infection with the virus to onset of symptoms, is from two to 21 days.

Health workers are at serious risk of contracting the disease - two American doctors have already contracted it, and a Liberian medic has died. Sierra Leone announced on July 23 Sheik Umar Khan, the doctor leading the fight against Ebola in the country, had himself contracted the disease following the deaths of several nurses at the treatment centre where he works.

Early treatment improves a patient's chances of survival.

Ebola is quite a terrifying reflection of conditions in some African nations... with proper care and decent health facilities Ebola should be fairly easy to contain, but unfortunately there's such inadequate health infrastructure and little public education, and so much misinformation and mistrust of doctors that it's able to spread.

They're sending infected corpses back to the families to be buried, for crying out loud. Handling an infected body is a very good way to pick up the disease.

Very, very tragic.
It is not exactly news worthy story. Looking back at the past Ebola outbreaks it seems pretty common in that area of Africa.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but could this be created to help keep Africa's population under control?

Ebola outbreaks have happened in Africa before, but they're generally small and confined to remote villages. This is the first time it has hit epidemic levels, and the first time it has managed to spread to metropolitan areas.

If the disease spreads to Lagos that could have really bad consequences, as it's a crowded city with poor healthcare facilities and sanitation - a perfect breeding ground for the disease.

It's bad news indeed.
Better stay out of Ivory Coast
It's the 24th outbreak of ebola and we still can't handle it in 2014???

But then again there's insufficient public awareness of this...

Check out the sociopolitical situation in West Africa - might help to explain why no one can handle it.

Also, other outbreaks have been relatively small compared to this one.

I can't believe the viruses its developed by humans , as computer hackers they create virus and anti virus thats happen when te english invade the states and try to eliminate the indians the oreginal settlers of united states they was attacking them by fire and biological weapons and viruses too so all viruses created by cia and kjb and central intellegence they want to control world by reduce population .

Some are saying the Ebola virus was behind the black death and not Bubonic Plague. If this is the case Europeans and others were nearly wiped out by it may be more resistant to it.

Really? Where'd you read that? Can you send me a link? Super interesting!
Jaff Goff (funny name ) you know some European aid workers have catched Ebola Virus so I guess Europeans aren't immune to it.

Not completely immune, but if what Jack Goff said is true than Europeans might have a better chance of survivial?
