Internship/Placement Year - Few Questions

Hi fellow TSR members,

I am new to this forum and I have a few questions regarding undertaking a placement year.

I am about to undertake a placement year, but I will get paid through an umbrella company. I have never used one before but are they risky? Am I an employee of the company I work for or the umbrella company?

1.

For people already on a placement or have undertaken a placement, what was it like working 9-5?

2.

Say if I get bored in the office, then what can I do?

3.

Is it stressful doing a placement?

Thanks in advance
You would not be an employee of the company you would be working for.

Your relationship would be with the umbrella. But whether you would be an employee, worker, or self-employed in that relationship with the umbrella I cannot say, it will depend what you agree with the umbrella. Get legal advice, from a specialist employment lawyer with knowledge of atypical working arrangements, so you know what you're getting yourself into.

Thanks for your advice.

Would you say it is risky getting paid under an umbrella company?

I've never used an umbrella company before, so I'm not sure how they fully work
No it shouldn't be risky per se. But they do tend to be used as vehicles for non employment status, so you need to fully understand what you would be getting into, and the effect that would have on your obligations and entitlements.
