Working for foreign embassies based in London?

Does anyone know if this is a feasible route into diplomacy/the public sector? I know many embassies hire local staff as well as citizens of their country, but haven't been able to find much information about this online.

Do you mean working for a foreign embassy in the UK, or working as locally engaged staff in a UK embassy abroad?

For the former, I doubt it would be much help. You can sometimes find local jobs advertised, but they are usually administrative, and are unlikely to lead to anything in the UK civil service. For the latter, it can be helpful as it gives you an idea of how the civil service works and the competencies, but it's still difficult to progress into the full diplomatic service.
