When people talk on trains

Scroll to see replies

I wouldn't like random strangers talking to me ... for some reasons I always like to contemplate things on solo train journeys and that cant be interrupted. haha but when other people are having convosations I dont mind because I can ear wig hahhahah and the silence would be awkward. Tip: earphones normaly stop people talking to you ... even if you dont want to listen to music just put them in and dont play anything people will try and talk to you and if they do you can ignore them because your pretend song is on loudly and you dont hear or notice them trying to talk to you.

Where does one get such confidence from

Well, I start really quietly so I'm playing guitar just to myself, I only play a bit louder if I feel that people around me are ok with it, I get the confidence from comfort in my environment

It's intolerable. Phone conversations are the worst. It's like people can't go without talking on a phone for an hour. So annoying.

You would hate me, I literally can't stop talking.

You would be my nightmare and I would quickly vacate the area.

Then again, if you were extremely interesting or particularly good looking I might stay.

Quite a high probability that I wouldn't though.
I wouldn't start a conversation with someone on a train. I've even seen people I actually know on trains and avoided them because I didn't feel like talking

If someone starts talking to me I'll go along with it, though. It's usually old ladies, for some reason they're drawn to me. It's quite sweet in a way, they're always very friendly- although they always ask me what I'm studying at university and never understand what it actually is!
I usually have my earphones in so I have no idea what you lot are on about. You do all this in London?! I doubt it.

I'm that guy who talks to all the strangers.

Sometimes I play guitar.

I'm not even kidding, if I take my guitar on a long journey and I know I'll be on the train for an hour, and if there's space, I'll quietly play guitar and gradually play louder and people sing along. It's quite fun actually

You are a prick.

I am glad you would not be allowed in First Class doing that.
In First Class, or the Quiet Coach, there are usually not many people talking loudly. So it is not a problem for me.

I stop as soon as somebody asks me to. Also if it's very crowded I avoid doing so because who knows how long these people have been on the train. Long journeys are usually late trains which are fairly empty. Also, I try to play songs which sound pleasant instead of thrashing 4 chords.

You'd be surprised how many people actually appreciate it as opposed to hate it. [[I've only ever had 2 people, one guy was very rude and people actually stood up for me, which was nice  ]]

[[EDIT: I couldn't afford first class, but if I could I certainly would play it there!]]

Fair enough.

Yes, you would pretty much get told to stop immediately if you were there.
I would love if someone started conversing with me on the train - long commutes get really, really boring.

No-one ever talks to me though :frown:
I always talk to people on trains. Its the best way to get people to think you are mad and have lost the plot and often they move into another carriage to get away from you. The best is to get a seat near a table seat and talk to the people with the table seats until they've had enough and move. Then you seize the table seat. Sometimes two people move from the table seats and this is called a double whammy. Then when you move into the table seat area another person moves into the other seat and you high five one another as he acknowledges your game plan.

I always end up with a table seat and the longest anyone has ever lasted listening to my crap is about 15 minutes. Last time in December going to a friends I just sat there singing Call Me Maybe as loud as possible. Got plenty of strange looks but was worth it for the table seat - then I whipped out the laptop and watched a movie.

I am a train tactician.

I'm a football fan who've sang on the tube and train plenty of times. Last thing I'm worried about is what a few prudes who cant let themselves go think. I always talk to people and sing. The train and tube is full of miserable bleeders who need to lighten up and learn to smile.
I feel alarmed when people randomly talk to me on trains but of course they can't see the anxiousness on the outside  But on a serious note, I use my train time to study, like reading up my lecture handouts etc, hence I don't like to be disturbed because sometimes it is the only time I have to study.
The talkers have the power to say something!!!! As everyone is dead silent, cowardly, shy, antisocial on the tube

ive no idea why some, such as this person think being a public nuisance is acceptable. After a long day at work sometimes I just want a bit of peace and quiet...

if you want to sing like a drunken fool fine but don't always expect a singalong!

Oh isn't life hard? You live in a first world country with a strong economy and still can't crack a smile in public. Its not being a public nuisance. Its being sociable and friendly, something the government has been trying to do away since socialism left and capitalisms divide and conquer approach came in. If you want to be miserable then knock yourself out Scrooge.

Because only drunk people sing? Loads of people often join in tbh.

They are talking about you, all of them. Each and every single person speaking in a foreign language. Especially in France, you're the hot topic in France.

You say tomato....

If you see it as miserable thats your prerogative. And, yeah I know people sing along occasionally. This Scrooge even has a few times  Hence why I said don't ALWAYS. Because the point I'm trying to make is people can do whatever the **** they want on the train, and if not talking to you is their choice, you need to get off your high horse and get over it. Same way I wouldn't ask a football hooligan to stop yelling. Its no skin off my nose but I'm not obliged to join in at all and that doesn't make me miserable. Its my time, I decide how I want to use it

oh and your First World reference is one of the silliest things I've read all week. I don't even know where to begin
