MEDICAL SCHOOL-medicine current affairs!

Where can i in the uk find blogs and articles based on current affairs in medicine in the UK. I find a lot of information for the USA etc but rarely anything for the United Kingdom.

I am subscribed to the new scientist however i feel i need more. I starr my volunteering in four weeks and will apply for medical entry 2016 so technically have two years, i just need to utilise this time effectively. I have invested in both the UKCAT600 and BMAT400 book but kaptlan (a course) doesnt run near me so i need to make sure i have things to speak about in my personal statement.

Thanks in advance and well done to all the medicine students who have passed this year at med school, have a great summer

If you go onto BBC news and then the health section, there are some really good stories about issues facing the NHS, advances in healthcare etc

I find student BMJ super boring to read, definitely use BBC health, and newscientist has some interesting articles! And you can always read topical books, e.g. the Max Pemberton series is good!

I wouldn't advise starting UKCAT/BMAT prep this early, there's not a lot of practice questions out there and you'll run out pretty quickly, you only really need to start a few weeks before your test.
Not worth paying for a student bmj sub in my opinion. A lot of stuff in it will be boring to you and there won't be that much relevant stories.

I got the books early as i had the money to do so. I wanted to make sure i had them in advance so its one less thing to worry about.

Try Mary Roach. I'm reading Bad Pharma right now and OMG!!! I'm planning to read dark remedies - it's about thalidomide. Buy your books on amazon, they always list similar ones underneath and you find some pretty interesting reads
Bbc news health is all I used for my interviews. Don't need anything more complicated or boring eg new scientist sbmj

I started with gulp because I was learning about the digestive system in school. I think stiff and gulp are the best to read first as they have more to do with the human body and medicine.

It's okay.
I really wanted to enter the pharmaceutical industry as a doctor but 40 pages in to bad pharma and I want nothing to do with them.

Yeah it makes you feel really infuriates and angry. I think the book should be read by everyone and anyone, i want to specialise either in neuro or in general surgery. The brain intrigues me. There arent many popular science books available about the brain though. So do you still want to be a doctor, if so what route do you plan to take. Im so excited but i also know getting that place is very hard i cant help ve excited and nervous at the same time
