english and american lit at UEA

I know that we're told to read widely and I know the type of lit I should read but I was just wondering if someone could give me some titles I'm likely to need when studying American and English lit. There's just so much to choose from! Especially american lit.
Thanks in advance!

You could narrow it down to themes, or base it on the historicism.

Brave New World
Angels in America
Death of A Salesman
The Crucible
The Grapes of Wrath

Catcher in the Rye (hated this novel)
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Tender is the Night

English Lit:

(Anything by) Shakespeare
Great Expectations
Wuthering Heights
Frankenstein
Pride and Prejudice
Maurice
A Room with a View
Cloud 9
The Well of Loneliness
Birdsong
Atonement
