Why bonkers? These cars have only done up to 40,000 miles.

Also, with the list mentioned above, these cars seem to be selling for more than £4000, unless they have done 90000+ miles.

Don't worry about mileage. For the same reason you wouldn't buy a 7 year old car, necessarily, with 90,000, buying one with far less than average isn't ideal either. It suggests that they have only ever been used either irregularly, or merely to pop down to the shops a few miles away, neither of which optimises a petrol engine due to lots of stop start and high revving. On the same note, buying a fairly new car with higher than average mileage may have a 'healthier' engine as it will have been driven optimally on the motorway for the majority of its life - and the clutch will probably be in better condition too. The only thing to be wary of in this case is whether the timing belt (if applicable) has been changed fairly recently.

In terms of good cars under £4k, Camoxide has given you a good list. Average mileage for petrol engines is around 10k/year, and diesel engines is around 15k/year so as long as they aren't way above, or under, this mark you should be okay in terms of mileage.

There are quite a few 2006-2008 Volkswagen Polo's on Autotrader right now in good condition for between £2000-£3000.

I'd be wary of getting a Mazda over 7 years old, however, as they have rotary engines which wear quite badly early on, and can cause some big costs later on. They also burn a fair bit of oil as they age too.

As long as you check the service history for what work they've had done - you can't really go far wrong.

Only the RX8 has a Rotary engine. Most other Mazdas that age are just Fords with a different skin.

Oh really - I thought the ****el/rotary engine was the only reason people ever brought Mazda's.

OP - Ignore that line of my post regarding rotary engines, it only applies to the RX-8.

EDIT: I don't know why some punter has starred out the word '****el'.. It's the name of the rotary engine Mazda manufactured.. See this.

EDIT II: It seems to be automatic - ignore. Word reads W-a-n-k-e-l

Bonkers is because a 7 year old peugeot tend to have a lot of sensors that go wrong and are expensive to fix. Some are difficult to diagnose as well.

207s also has a CANBUS system which are rather problematic as per most PSA cars of that era.

40k miles means nothing other than a higher selling price to the unwary.

While some of the cars would no doubt have plenty of life left in it, £4k is simply a lot of money for any car made by PSA or Fiat once it is 7 years old.

You would get a better Japanese car for the money and most likely a better Ford for the money too.

Only the Mazda RX7 and RX8 have rotary engines and they are good for around 40k miles of problem free motoring. They don't generally cost a lot to rebuild these days.

They burn oil from new

Other Mazdas of that era were essential Ford rebadge or reskins.

Haha Camoxide just pointed that out - terrible mistake in getting rid of them, only appeal of a Mazda IMO.
that Peugeot 207 sport looks mint. How old are you and what's your insurance quote for that car out of interest? Also, if you don't mind saying how many years of no claims do you have?

The RX like the MX5 will always live on as it has always been the car that sold well.

It will be a few years before the next RX comes to market as currently the company is broke due to having to develop new models on its own since it is now no longer under Ford. Car design and engineering especially good ones don't come cheap.

The Rotary engine is a good one but wasn't easy to meet emission requirements.

Mazda don't even sell a car with a rotary engine at the moment. They had to stop selling the RX8 because it couldn't meet emissions and the fuel economy was extremely poor.

However the RX9 is rumored to be coming out with a new rotary engine in 2017.

It looks better, but it's actually slower - and thus less sporty - than the other Peugeot he mentions..

you mean slower in terms of acceleration not top speed?

That's interesting. I clearly knew very little about modern Mazda's so nice one for fixing my knowledge.

Yes - sorry.

Yeh it does look nice.

I have checked insurance with it yet im afraid, and am thinking of leaving it based on the reviews on here. I may have been putting too much interest in mileage. Feel free to buy the car yourself
