Why do people feel the need to have kids?

I see a lot of people, and consider them to be unfit parents or they actually are unfit parents. Also maybe it this is just around where I live, but people rave on and on about how they want kids.

I consider them to be bad people and inevitably terrible parents.

Also they waste resources such as food, jobs etc.

And when their is adoption, why do people feel the need to procreate/

stupid people -> because they're stupid

poor people -> get benefits innit

middle class -> have emotional neuroses about giving their children the best opportunities that they "never had" and "worked so hard to get to where they are today".

the 1% -> dynastic heirs to carry on a legacy (or just because they might fancy a child with no real resource constraints to think of)

the intelligent -> a bet against old age leading up to their imminent demise
