Freshers' Events

Hi everyone,

I know results week is coming up pretty shortly, and I wish you all the best of luck (hopefully I'll be seeing you around campus next term).
I'm about to go into the 2nd Year of my Law degree at Brunel. It can be pretty confusing to know which particular Freshers' events to go to because the Freshers' page will be completely bombarded by posts.
If you have any questions whatsoever about life/courses/social events at Brunel, do not hesitate to contact me at all, and I will do my very best to answer questions as honestly as possible.
I got to Brunel through clearing, so it wasn't what I planned, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
If you do have a little bit of time, here are 2 things you should definitely check out:

1) Lacrosse at Brunel
Possibly the best sports club at Brunel, we are a mixed team, we do not care if you are sporty AT ALL, and of course we do the best socials!
https://www.facebook.com/groups/651468778281979/

2) The first OFFICIAL Brunel Freshers' event at Liquid/Envy Uxbridge (The local club, which you will develop a love hate relationship with) is a UV Neon Rave, and if you want to be ahead of the game, buy tickets here:
http://brunel2014.fatsoma.com/events/111681/?r=1681951304

I do hope you get to check these 2 links out (they aren't spam I promise) and I look forward to seeing you beautiful people in September - don't be afraid to say hi!

I've got a conditional offer for Law! I'm not sure if I'll get the results they want, but, I'll probably buy a ticket for the UV Neon Rave. Do you know if I'll be able to give away the ticket if I don't get into Brunel?

One downside; I can't dance to save my life, a UV Rave isn't going to give me any confidence with glowing **** around me, haha.

Hey,

That's great to hear, and I'm sure you've got in  If I were you, I'd buy it after results just to be on the safe side (they'll be on sale right up until they sell out), purely because you don't want to stress yourself out with ticket transfers in the event that you don't go to Brunel.
Honestly though, you will learn that the majority of people in Liquid are also clueless about dancing (me included) but I'd advise it just to get to know some people!

Haha, I mean, I wouldn't mind giving out the ticket for free if I don't get in - I'd rather be safe (ticket ability wise) than sorrow.

Well that is the plan, hopefully to find some people to hangout/go with, as I wouldn't want to stand out on my own hahah (in-line into the venue and ****).

Do you reckon they'll be internal parties going on?

Thanks Nancy.

In that case, go ahead and get the ticket! The best thing to do if you're uncertain as to how many people are going would be to check the Brunel Official Freshers 2014-15 Facebook group- it's all regulated so you don't get any scam posts.
If you're in Fresher accommodation, I can guarantee you will have people to go with, so do not panic at all. If possible, try to find out who your flat are through the Facebook group and maybe you could all go to the first event together as an icebreaker?

Ok, when you say 'internal parties' I'm guessing you mean flat parties rather than stuff that will be on at The Academy (On campus nightclub)

I would definitely not advise throwing flat parties during freshers week for the following reasons:
1) Your flat WILL get trashed and you may not get your £400 deposit back
2) Security will shut it down
3) Freshers week is best lived through the events organised by the Uni, and that's how you'll end up getting to know people. I didn't buy tickets to all the Freshers' events last year, and hugely regretted it. Plus, you can have the flat parties all year round if you're short on cash. It's just that everything's a little bit crazy during freshers' and you don't want to risk any damage.

You'll be assigned halls contacts (of which I shall be one) who will help you move in, get to know each other better and escort you to places on a night out too.

If you're wondering what the best nights out are:

Liquid/Envy Uxbridge
Wednesdays are amazing because it is sports night, so definitely join a club (Lacrosse hint hint) even if you aren't sporty. You'll get a 'silvercard' which gives you and a +1 free entry every wednesday before 10:30 (ridiculously early I know, but all the sports clubs arrive then so it's always jam packed).
Go to Liquid on a Saturday at your own risk.

The Academy

Globals and Megaglobals (end of term parties) happen on a Friday and if you're a campus fresher, this will be convenient. Never as good as Liquid Wednesdays.

The Electric Lounge
Never.

Hope this has been helpful (and not an information overload)
Feel free to keep asking questions!

By "internal parties" I meant both flat parties as well as official parties . The info was great, thanks, lets hope I get in haha.

Alcohol.
Parties.
If you're (un)lucky, hookups with strangers.
Fresher's Fayre to see societies.

Oh, and induction sessions to your course.

No, the UV thing is on at Liquid the day before freshers' week begins, anything academy related will be on during freshers' week itself

Oh fair.

Yeah, I was gonna say, last year I went to the free event that Brunel did, the queue was so long, and some people didn't get in all night. It ruined our night, because we couldn't get tickets for liquid that late so we just had to go back to the flat. You might as well go to liquid on the Sunday, then do all the fresher events during the week at academy:
