Ok I sent an app form for a position working with the national missing persons helpline and i wrote that i had an interest in criminal/forensic psychology, now the woman emailed me back asking what i meant by this. I now realise that the interest doesnt have anything to do with what i was on about apart from maybe escaped convictions who are therefore missing. opps

please help

That you have a broad understanding of psychology, with a particular interest in criminal/forensic psychology. This has given you a sensitivity to the particular issues and needs raised by both diagnosed psychiatric illness, and psychological trauma more widely. You feel that this will support your position as [whatever] by [whatever]. (i.e. spin it away from criminal/forensic and spend a good paragraph talking more generally about psychology)
