Is there any point in getting an Accounting degree from UCLan?

Assuming a 2:1 is achieved, is there any point in order to get a decent paying position.

Thank you!
I've been wondering the same thing!

I got an offer at UCLan for this course, but decided to do the BSc Accounting and Finance at Salford.

A lot of my friends who work in Accountancy have said there really is no need to do the degree, but go through alternative vocational courses e.g. AAT etc. It's all about the university experience for me though!

No, there is never any point in getting a degree in accountancy because it's cheaper and faster to just do the professional qualification that will test you to a higher standard. If you desperately want a degree and plan to do accountancy afterwards, use the opportunity to broaden your skill set and study something like Law, Economics or a language.

Thanks for that.

Is neuro or Forensic Science good options?
they offer degrees of accounting in combo with finance, business etc. you could also study one of those since they will let you have knowledge in related fields. also these degrees let you have exemptions from accounting professional qualifications (+ you get the university experience) thus allowing you to complete professional qualifications later on within a shorter time.

Yes, they're both interesting and challenging degrees although if you're thinking ahead you might choose something more useful in your chosen career to get an edge on your peers.

Haha, depends what your good at really. Languages always stand out. Computer Science is a really good one for accountancy these days (perhaps it means when your firm replaces you with a computer, you can get another job maintaining it!). Good degrees in things like Physics, Mathematics and BSc Economics tend to imply you'll find accountancy a doddle and may provide some benefit too.

History is a surprisingly good one for audit. If you are good both with quantitative and qualitative approaches of analysing data, which proper historians tend to be (people who tend to stop the subject at GCSE have no real idea just how different the subject is at degree level), then you might find it helpful. Other social sciences also have this benefit.

Avoid business studies but Management can be a good subject for giving you a well rounded view of how organisations are run.

Also, you might be interested in doing accountancy for a specific industry. A degree in financial services (NOT finance) could be useful for example.
