TomTom Recommendations

So I'm looking to buy a TomTom and having a quick browse on Amazon, there are a ton of different models. Which do you recommend?

Requirements:
- UK maps only
- 6" preferred

What's the difference between the Go and Smart?

TomTom Go 600 = £155 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-GO-600-UK-Ireland/dp/B00CXSNFVS/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1408383862&sr=1-3&keywords=tomtom+go+60

TomTom Smart 60M = £130 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-Start-Ireland-Lifetime-Updates/dp/B00AILGDRA/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1408384375&sr=1-6&keywords=TomTom

Garmins are better devices.

I work at Halfords part time. I'd recommend a Garmin over the TomToms anyday. TomTom only really sell by name but we have a lot of problems - mainly silly ones and battery issues - with the TomTom units.

Garmin were selling sat nav equipment back in the 70s with satellite phones, etc. Their satnavs are more reliable, quicker and not quite as expensive.

Make sure you buy one with free lifetime maps! If not, it'll cost you approx £80 a year for map updates. You don't HAVE to update your satnav but it really helps...

Garmin Nuvi 65LM (6" screen UK maps) is currently £139.99 on Halfords.com

I'm swayed by TomTom since I've used them before and familiar with their UI.
Tomtom does the job and the UI is nice and simple but it's not all that and the battery life is absolute ****.

Agree with rouge182, get one with lifetime maps....

No way was I going to pay a crap load of money each year just for some maps

Go 600. It's the newer more advanced product.
I had a Tom Tom but now have a Garmin - but I preferred the Tom Tom - the user interface seemed simpler to me.
