EPQ Pointers

Hey guys

I am currently writing notes for my EPQ for next year entitled "To what extent is the UK political system currently representing the social demographic of the country?" and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or areas in which i should particularly focus on, or simply mention.

Would be very grateful! Thanks

I don't even know what EPQ is so I don't have a clue what the syllabus is- though I have a degree in politics.

You have a word limit? You don't need to cover everything but you do need to recognise your limitations is the essay and say why- eg focus on two because you think they are most important because of X reason. Or you can do a bit of everything but you need to be careful to not give too much of an overview/lack detail. Gender, class and race would be top of my list.

I wouldn't take it as just asking you to say X amount of Asian people in UK, Y amount of Asian MPs= not well represented. It's asking about the whole system. Remember the house of Lords and devolved parliaments but you can justify focusing mostly on MPs. I'd take it as also asking about why that is the case- candidate selection is part of the system. Here gender, race and class become the easiest to talk about, particularly gender and the actions different parties have took to have more female candidates and more females in the cabinet. You can also comment on the effectiveness of these measures.
