The majority of Russians do want to see the Soviet Union return, according to polls.

The Soviet Union under Gorbachev would likely have been better than Putin's current fascist state.
Animal Farm in practice.

Not russian myself but I have ethnic russian friends from latvia who feel a sort of nostalgia from the past as back then they were stronger, more powerful but now they feel as if they are just another country.....especially in latvia and other post soviet states where russians are institutionally discriminated against..............
The Soviet Union was a disgusting stain on humanity.

I like how you're comparing it to an allegory of it.
"Whoever does not miss the Soviet Union has no heart. Whoever wants it back has no brain."
- Vladimir Putin

I think in one way it was an absolute tragedy because it basically sunk the left and left consumerism to wreak havoc unchallenged across the world. However the bigger shame is that the left was hi-jacked by vile Marxists through the 20th century to the point where it needed the Soviet Union to sustain itself.
Nope. As an anarchist leaning lefty the Soviet Union was a morbid monster in need of being put down imo. To bad it was replaced with a capitalist oligarchy. Poor Russians.

The Russians revolution was utterly lost to authoritarianism the moment the Bolsheviks turned on the sailors and sealed their dictatorship.

The sailors were not saints, they let a white army general on their ship. I'd be pretty pissed as well if I were a Bolshevik.

Once the Bolsheviks defeated the sailors (the very ones that helped seal the Bolsheviks' power) their authority was entrenched. The Bolsheviks completely destroyed any freedoms that were won by ordinary people and the rest is history.

Freedoms won by ordinary people? You must be joking the provisional government was garbage, Russia was utterly destroyed economically and all the workers did was go on strike undermining the governments efforts during wartime, prior to this they were ruled by a Tsar who defined freedom as the ability to not die when doing as he said. There was about as many freedoms under the Bolsheviks, Provisional government and the Tsars, none. The grubby sailors decided to let a white army general on their ship, they were traitors plain and simple.

In times of the soviet union, the capitalism was not so dominated in the world, because it was in a competition with the socialism. That's why the capitalism was more humane than ever before, as the capitalism in West Germany has to persuade the Germans which of them the better economy was. Otherwise the Germans were move to East Germany and the communism what the allies in West Germany intended to prevent. I'm sure that some development in economy (globalisation) were not come into being when the soviet union and the socialism would still exist. Don't get me wrong! I like neither the capitalism nor the socialism, but the competition between these economies was the best framework condition for Germans. In West at least.
