The Student Room Group

I know very little about the range of uni courses out there. Can some HELP ME!!!!!!!!

I am currently 16 years old and have just received my gcse results. (I achieved 9A* and 2A). Next year I have chosen to do Biology, Geography, Chemistry and Mathematics for A-level. However I have very little knowledge about the range of courses at uni that would suit these subject combos. I am mostly interested in Biology and Geography. Does anyone know of some good undergrad courses that I might be interested in ????????

Maybe Environmental Science?
There's a guide called informed choices on the russel group website.
You haven't limited yourself badly with those choices, depends what sort of things you're interested in. Maths is going to be important for sciency and techy courses.

Hi I do the exact same subjects as you (about to go into A2) and luckily for us if you have the grades the world is your oyster! I am applying to study Chemical engineering and Anthropology. You should look on the UCAS website for more info but you can study most science subjects and because you are interested in Biology and Geography check out Biological Anthropology and Archaeology courses.
Hope that helps

You could do a degree in biological sciences with geography, or some kind of medical degree (considering you took bio and chem) however it is important to research into what kind of jobs you would consider, a degree looks amazing on your CV however if it is useless to the job you apply for it won't be much help! It is difficult I know it seems like a lot of major decisions! But you have plenty of time to take a look at your choices.

Good luck.
Are you interested in anything like: Zoology, Ecology & Conservation Management, or Ecology & Wildlife Conservation?

Go to the UCAS website and simply read their list of subjects

Anything that interests you - look at a university that does it and check their webpage for details on the course

Just see what interests you at this point

By the end of the year you will have a greater understanding of the elements of the subjects you are doing so will be clearer about your direction

Look at Russell Group Universities and 1994 group universities

The universities that are mentioned in the other posts are a good starting point. However, I am very bias as I applied to both Bournemouth University and Sparsholt College.

Bournemouth University has a variety of different courses. I have been told that they do a lot of lab work. Bournemouth has links to various organisations like the Dorset Wildlife Trust. A bigger list of the organisations that are linked to Bournemouth should be on the website somewhere. Bournemouth offers very big scholarships too. The class sizes will be bigger if you go to Bournemouth. The accommodation is spread out over Bournemouth. Some of the accommodation is en-suite and the cost varies depending on where you are staying and the size of your room. I have been told that there are also various funding opportunities available as long as your project is directly linked to your course.

However, Sparsholt College specialises in a lot more practical work and hands on experience. They offered two different scholarships: Academic Scholarship and Endeavour Scholarship. The class sizes are a lot smaller if you go somewhere like Sparsholt. A lot of the accommodation is en-suite and you only have to share the kitchen. The accommodation is a lot closer to the college. If you apply within a reasonable amount of time it is possible to have a choice between a campus inside of the college or just outside the college and not far from the town in Winchester. There are some smaller funding opportunities available within reason of a budget. Sparsholt also has links to various organisations too.

Natural Sciences
Combined Honours

Both of those are flexible degrees allowing a combination of subjects to studied, though you may eventually specialise in one. For example, Biology, Geography and perhaps a module or two of Maths, or even a new subject, before specialising in, say, Biology in your final year.

NHS courses (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Radiology, Physiotherapy, Medicine...)

Surveying and Town Planning

Zoology

Wildlfe and countryside conservation.

Plus humanities and social sciences such as Philosophy, Psychology and Law.

There are many, particularly as subjects at unversity are often new to people, previous study is often not required.though for vocational subjects some work experience is usually required.
