Do Engineers make money?

And if yes, which type of engineers? How do you get there?
It's just I always had my mind set in medicine but I'm starting to discover what engineers do and it kind of interest me, now I just want to know how much they make and the like.
Thanks:smile:

No, engineers get paid with fist bumps & firm handshakes.

Lol! I mean can you get rich (make 100k+) in engineering

Engineers are paid pretty well. It depends on how experienced you are, and you'll get paid more as you gain more experience. I think graduate engineers are initially paid around £30k or so, while experienced ones can earn 6 figures per year.

If that's all your interested in, you won't survive the course. You'll be in your fifties before you have the chance to see anywhere near that amount of money.

I like medicine and engineering and so I think money should be one of the determining factors. So it takes the same amount of time to earn money in both medicine and engineering, or is one quicker? Thanks again

(null)yeah but those jobs aren't very safe, I mean I know people getting fired from one day to the next and don't get me started about the credit crunch

Electrical engineers make the most, but you definitely have to love the subject as it is an EXTREMELY hard course. I would love to do it but I have absolutely no patience.

What do they do?

They do make money. I know a Civil Engineer who makes 100K+, partly because the Middle East need Engineers and like western Engineers. They are willing to pay big bucks

Are there jobs in the western part of the world that make that kind of money? Is civil engineering the best? Thanks

Those who work at the Royal Mint make money, yes.

Engineers in oil and gas will generally earn more/increase their salary quicker compared to most (if not all) other industries that engineers work in. If you work hard, become skilled in your field and go down the consultancy route, I'm sure you could earn 6 figures.

However if you don't wish to work in this industry, then of course it will be more difficult (opportunity wise) to earn such money perhaps (I am no expert after all), but you could still earn what most normal people would consider to be a good living.

Really it should be a mix between doing something you'll enjoy whilst still earning a decent living even if it's not megabucks.

Hmm not as much but the middle east is where the money is, I'm planning on applying to a Civil Engineering this year. The thing is, money shouldn't be the reason you want to go into a career. (I'm year 13)

They make money by... making money.

I'm not too sure on the specifics, but money is definitely involved (and changes hands).

I genuinely like engineering, it's just I want to decide between that and medicine

He was being sarcastic; people who work at the royal mint physically make money by using the printing machines.

Medicine is not going to make you rich; comfortable, but not rich. You're not going to get 100k+ unless you a really top consultant in a specialist field.

Yeah I got that now

Well I want to be the es at whatever I do, if it's engineering, a top engineer and if it's medicine, a top doctor!
But yeah, do you think medicine is more work?
