anyone know if a hypothetical St Aidans-er would be able to use torrent at Durham without being taken off the network or anything? I don't think I've had a letter warning me against it, whereas my sister, who is going to Oxford, has been told she def can't.

I believe I've read on other threads on here already that you can't use it as it is blocked by the firewall.

You would be allowed to download torrents of non copyrighted material, but torrents are blocked as are all p2p networks, you will get a list of terms and conditions when you get there, it says don't do anything illegal!

at durham, in college theoretically you can look at as much porn as you like as long as it's not illegal and doesn't restrict the bandwidth for others

I was able to bypass some server or port or somesuch and access newsgroups, but although doing this regularly at home is simple enough, I had to follow a step by step guide from a friend to be able to do it.

oops that was a question. can i get n external interenet package?

get a freeview box and watch it on e4 when it comes out, or download before you go to uni and save it to dvd

doesn't come out on the air until october - repeat - on the AIR - they will show 5 episodes and if the ratings go up then they will show the rest. But lost series 3 won't be ripped from dvd or tv and distributed over torrents for a long long time.

Freshers don't despair about the internet - just download all your music BEFORE uni and borrow other people's cds - there are 10,000 people - I'm sure you'll be able to find someone with similar music tastes. anyway next year you can get an apartment with your own internet line and download whatever you want.

bigred can explain better but all the ports for p2p are blocked and you'd have to be pretty devious to get around this. However, if you did and ITS found out, you could be kicked off the network.

I'm sorry that is incorrect. Series 3 of LOST is being aired on the 4th October (in the U.S. and Canada) and they will definitely air the whole of series 3 (in the U.S at least). They are planning to make up to series 4 (possibly series 5). Series 3 won't be aired in the U.K until at least 2007, so definitely won't be aired on E4 anytime soon. I was more concerned about downloading LOST torrents and whether anyone at Durham has managed to do it.
