I was thinking on the lines of something either sciencey or mathsy
'Sciencey or Mathsy'? Please dont put that in the personal statement love

Hmmmm... I'd go for Cambridge if you did.

But you'd have to do very well at AS.

Haha, what I am really trying to say is that I'm not entirely sure what I would like to specialise in. After I have completed my A-levels I will understand more about what I enjoy the most and it will give me chance to find myself and experience more before making such a large decision. Also please do not refer to me as 'love'. I was merely trying to make fun of the situation and lighten the mood a bit. I didn't want to commit myself to say 'Computer Science' or 'Mathematics' because then it leaves no room to explore other options. Thank you very much.

Yeesh! Bit prickly, aren't you? Lighten up

Btw, deciding after your A levels what you want to do at uni is a little late, don't you think?

Hello Lucy,

Your results are certainly very good. 5 A*s indicates a very bright student. If you wish to set your sights on Oxbridge then you should go for it. The real test is at A level and that is a significant step up from GCSE. I know people with predicted grades of 3 A*s at A level who were not offered a place. They went on to achieve 3 A*s but no Oxbridge place.

In reality there are a number of top universities where you could thrive. Take a look at the University League tables.

You need to determine for yourself which A levels to study. You seem strong in English, Science and Business so a broad base of ability. If you are strong and love the subject then choose it. After that it is a matter of your own judgement. There is not necessarily a right or wrong choice, just different choices.

Hard work is the key but be sure to allow yourself some R&R too ....... All the best

Well, to be honest, I wouldn't say your chances would be strong at Oxford- they place a lot of emphasis on GCSEs and your B in Biology and C in Further Maths would probably be of concern.

Cambridge could still be a possibility, but you would need to show significant improvement at AS (90%+ : ideally higher), especially in your weaker subjects, like the C in further maths and A in maths.

I got in to maths at Oxford with much worse grades than that.
