What is law actually like to study at university?

I think I've had it once, but I was in no state to be doing a taste test!

Yeah, let's be honest you're not having vodka because it tastes good, no one ever sat down and requested a quaddie instead of the steak.

On the topic of law booze, my gf's Dad is a criminal barrister and was asking us what a Jagerbomb was after it cropped up in a case. We eventually got him to understand what it consisted of, but he's still totally baffled as to why anyone would ever drink it!

I think I want to buy a bottle purely because of the bottle itself. It's so cool! Then I can fill it up with water, and drink it during seminars heh heh

The only reason I'd have a Jagerbomb is to get drunk; quickly. I had enough them in my first year, now I can't handle it.

I've been through phases of vanilla vodka (the greatest of all time), Malibu, vodka, then I think a 6 month stint of just Jack Daniels Honey hahaha

My current drink of choice is Smirnoff lime vodka + lemonade. Tastes like lemonade.

I'm completely baffled by 'lad bombs'! Jägerbombs are bad enough without an extra shot of vodka (cheap or otherwise) poison!
well this is a depressing thread

Yeah, that's basically what we said, but when the conversation is:

Him: 'So what does the spirit taste of?'
Me: 'Cough syrup'
Him: 'And you drink that with Red Bull'.
Her: 'Yup'
Him: 'And you down this?'
Us: 'Yeah'.

You can see why he was questioning the appeal really.

I've not tried the special lime vodka, but vodka, lemonade and a shot of lime cordial is a great drink.

You should've added that they are mostly on offer for £1.50-£2 making it a great anti depressant/stimulant

The vodka is separate to the jagerbomb I think, that would be truly horrendous!

Yeah, I feel old now when I go into bars and there are about 20 named 'bombs' listed, of which I know jager and nothing else.

I did say the combination of energy drink and booze is illegal in France, he seemed to think this was fairly sensible

:s-smilie:

Anyway, back on topic, as a summary.

Law is an interesting subject, it involves a lot of reading but can be very rewarding. Be wary of it for it's lower than average percentage of 2.1s awarded and the fact it's quite a broad course, you will not be a specialist in an area by graduation. By contrast most Historians or English students generally study modules which are all quite interlinked by Final year and know loads about, say, Europe from 1850 to 1914.

If you are pretty set on Law, go for it, but be sure to read a taster book like What About Law, or similar, before committing to study it for 3 years at considerable expense.

Please can someone just give me a success story from taking law? :frown:

I am studying law, and love it, absolutely fascinating. I am just about to start my level two modules in October. I kind of decided to study law by accident as my original plan was to study social work or criminology, however I decided to to do an introductory module in law with the OU whilst I decided, and fell in love with the subject. Before I decided to sign up for the degree, I researched possible career options, there are many! I am not planning to be a lawyer or barrister (although it will be a qualifying law degree and will keep an open mind). There are so many areas you can go into with a law degree as the subject is so broad. A selling point for me was that if I decided I wanted a career change a few years down the line, then I would be able to do it quite easily with this subject. I am also a full time working single mum, so have to fit the study in with my commitments. If you enjoy the subject and have determination, then you will love it.

We don't get paid until the end of the month!

Might upgrade to Grey Goose after that. Though odds are we'll think we're balling on pay day, crash a magnum of it somewhere, then realise it's cost half the rent and resort back to the student standard of Glen's.

Pro-tip (for vodka drinking not being a laywer): Don't upgrade to Grey Goose, it tastes like double concentrate Sainsburys Basics vodka, upgrade to Ketel One, Ciroc or Crystal Head, all of these actually taste better.
****ing boring - thank god I've dropped it

What uni were you doing law at?

So, let me get this straight: (1) You're not a law student and you've never studied law a day in your life; (2) You don't personally actually know many current law student and/or lawyers and/or judge actively working in the profession? And yet you're going to come onto a law thread to tell us (the actual lawyers and law students) about the course/profession/employment?

As someone who has spent the past 6 years in university and seen many friends study a variety of subjects and enter the working profession or graduate school let me tell you that I don't know of a SINGLE STEM student that actually has a job doing what their degree was actually in. Conversely, I know MANY lawyers who have just graduated from UK and US law schools who are earning six figures starting the day they walked into their jobs.

I think we can extrapolate your research ability/general knowledge about the 'real world' from this lovely post asking if one can give themselves AIDS: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2838829

You're clearly not a university-level student, you have no real world experience, you're young and, frankly, naive. Get off your arrogant know-it-all horse and stop trying to give people the same age as you advice, when you're in no position to do so.

you don't know me so don't try it. your little rant was amusing to read tho. A* for you

If that's a way of asking which A-levels are suitable to do law at university, then pick any subjects which are 'respected', or 'hard' which you feel you will get the best grades in.
