Pressure to socialize

Hey,

I was just wondering, I am a strong introvert and don't enjoy socializing with people at all. I was looking at working in an accountants for the next year, as part of an internship. How much pressure is there to go out and socialize with other co-worker and will they accept me declining their invites politely? How can I help deal with that pressure if possible?

Thanks.
Internships are for bolstering your CV, and if your social skills are to be tested you'll be talking mainly to strangers over the phone, not your colleagues.

I'm seriously nervous about the pressure to socialise. I started today, in the induction day they made quite a big deal about the social aspect of the company....
Well it's not like you have to be popular or anything, just make sure you know how to do your job.

I worked at an accountancy firm for a couple of weeks over the summer and to be honest, we did go out to lunch quite a lot, but I didn't go every time - I just said 'sorry I have to do some shopping this lunchtime' and they didn't think I was rude or anything. Why don't you make an effort to go sometimes but not necessarily every time? I am horrible in social situations too but I made myself do these things because I don't want to spend my whole life turning down every opportunity like I used to.
