self studying an a level question

Right, so this year I'll be self teaching myself A2 Further Maths. I've checked the prices for each module but my question is where would I sit the exam? Should I talk to a local school (or even my own school) and offer to pay them so that they can enter me in? How does it all work?
Google up exam centres for independent candidates. Check the board you are with as well.

Just contact a school nearby that's doing that same exam (exam board etc.), and make an enquiry
Exam boards often have a list on their website of all the centres that take independent candidates for that particular board.

Thanks guys! Also, do you guys know anything about how cash ins work? I would be sitting my other A levels at my normal school while sitting A2 Further maths at an external centre. Also, how would my prediction be made for A level further maths? I'm sitting AS and A2 further maths in one year.

If at all possible, you need to enter for the FM units at your current school. It is almost certain that some of the Maths and some of the Further Maths units will be timetabled in the same exam sessions and if you have to take them at 2 different exam centres then you will need a member of centre staff (possibly more than 1 if they are not prepared for a lone adult to escort you on child protection grounds) to escort you between the centres in isolation between the exams. This will be virtually impossible, particularly if the other centre is a considerable distance away.

(Entering at your school will probably also be the cheapest option - you'll probably have to pay the exam fees, but not much more unless they have to book an invigilator specifically for you.)

As far as the cash-in goes, the best plan is for your current centre to cash you in for everything.

Your school may be happy to enter you for the exams (and arrange any that weren't being arranged already for others), especially if they know that you'd be looking to do it elsewhere (though don't go in sounding like you expect them to refuse). Your Maths teacher/the head of Maths might be the first port of call, then the examinations officer directly if it doesn't get sorted at that point.

They may want you to pay the entrance fee, or even something towards the extra costs of arranging an exam just for you (which is not that much if it's just an invigilator sat there for an hour or so - often the times overlap with other exams so there would be no extra staff needed), or they may just cover it themselves. I self-taught Spanish AS and A2 and my school didn't want any money from me.

As a poster above mentioned, it's really the best idea to do it at your own school. There's no reason to think you won't be able to arrange it with them.

Edit: Your Maths teacher might be able to give you a predicted grade. Otherwise I guess you just won't have a predicted grade.

I already checked ahead my exam timetable next year for exactly this situation. It turns out there would not be any clash between the modules I'd be sitting externally. but yeah I will contact my school anyway
