To cut a long story short I have a place at Uni in Bristol (UWE) and have payed deposits for accommodation etc. I was planning on going with nothing to hold me back but something has happened in my family which makes me want to take a year out. How do I cancel my application and defer it to next year...or will they even let me defer?!

Call them and ask them if you can defer. They don't have to let you, but they often will. If they will, they will give you some pointers about what to do about the accommodation if it's university owned. If it isn't, you may lose the deposit, I'm afraid.
